Wait. Isnt that what everyone hates about "trumps base"???

The Republican speaker of Ohio's House of Representatives was arrested by federal officials Tuesday on charges connected to a $60 million bribery scheme.

Ugh.

I'm quite familiar with the program. A textbook example of the perils of trying to do everything.

Amid staggering job losses in March and April, Florida's unemployment system was the slowest in the country to process claims. Residents described nightmarish experiences as they tried to get benefits. By April 20, just 6% of Floridians who had applied for unemployment benefits had received a check.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said that result was by design.

"Having studied how [the unemployment system] was internally constructed, I think the goal was for whoever designed, it was, 'Let's put as many kind of pointless roadblocks along the way, so people just say, oh, the hell with it, I'm not going to do that,' " DeSantis told a Miami CBS affiliate this week.

Yeah, I don’t think the founding fathers ever intended the senate majority leader to wield so much power.

And yeah, I think there’s a big big argument for a living wage.

But yeah, the biggest hurdle to it all is getting the average voter to realize it.

Whats your big argument for a living wage?

By living wage I assume you are talking about universal basic income?

I would also note with the taxes needed to fund some of these fantasies the wages are going to need to increase past reasonable levels and companies will find other ways to accomplish those tasks. Be that offshore or AI or whatever.

My argument for a living wage for now shall be two-pronged:

1. I think that any American willing to work full time should not have to live in poverty
2. I think that wealth should not be so concentrated toward the very very top.

I’m not arguing for UBI, and don’t think it’s necessarily necessary. I think the focus should be more so on decent opportunities for the working class.

Companies seek offshore/automation/anything to improve numbers, obviously, but either way I think they should pay their fair share in taxes.

I’ve long advocated for a tax plan based on an exponential curve. Everybody pays some, and the more you earn, the more you pay in taxes, no loopholes or exemptions or shit.

This, perhaps also with a federal sales tax, so that we’re taxed on consumption as well as income. And tax things like private jets and vacation homes more than you tax bread and eggs.

If you raise wages how do you combat the rising costs? Company spends more to produce/sell/provide service then the prices are going to increase.

We all make choices and have to live with the consequences of those choices. I think we lack personal responsibility in this country.

So many companies have plenty of wealth on hand - record wealth! - they just aren’t sharing it with the workers who help to earn it.

I might even propose some sort of law that an executive’a compensation can only be so many times more than that of a rank-and-file worker, though I know that sort of ideal might be vilified as the socialism boogeyman, eeek!

It’s also worth mentioning that increasing worker’s wages creates more consumer buying power, and I’m still of the belief that consumer demand is a bigger economic driver than tax breaks for 1 percenters and corporations.
