Still in Kansas gas stations.

Drinking age should go to 18 for all alcoholic bevs, imo.

Buying tobacco age is now 21 in KC, which is also good, imo.

I won tickets to a Ramones show at the Uptown from KJHK.

My show was far from entertaining. Friday nights in a University town? Kind of got the feeling I was spinning for me and my three best friends.

Anyone remember what KJHK was called in the early 70s? I was an undergrad at Emporia State and we used to listen to it whenever we could tune it in. Their format was playing albums in their entirety but they included a lot of music that wasn't readily available to those of us in the flyover state.

True. I remember. It was transmitted through dorm wiring back then, if I remember correctly.

We used to go shoot pool and drink beer on Friday nights at a place called Carpenter's Hall on Mass Ave. A few of us students and a bunch of old blue collar guys.

Back when "no" meant "sorry, I couldn't hear you over the screams"

The old guys shot snooker and paid little attention to us students. They tolerated our presence, probably to give the owner of the place some income, but mostly acted as if we weren't there.

What you're describing--I remember that from some place in North Lawrence frequented for fraternity parties. Only went once--seemed like a dangerous environment.

Yeah, that's right. I can't remember the name, but that spot had a reputation.

Might have been--don't know that I ever knew the name. The Tee Pee was another place with the same reputation, but I never was there.

Here's an article about the closure of the pool hall--it was apparently called Jayhawk Billiards, in Carpenter Hall.

I know it won't happen, but you really shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about.

Alums are talking over here.

There was an Old Carpenter Hall Smokehouse on Mass. I don't remember a pool hall there.

Not very good barbecue and it got worse when it changed to Buffalo Bob's.

I’ve been to this bar many many times. With or without Alumni cards or blue collar locals without cards either.

That would have opened after the billiards place closed. You just had to make a woman reveal her age? :)
