Remember how deep we were going to be this year?
4 points on 4 shots from the bench today.

Also I think the premise of us being deep was when we thought we'd have Udoka and DeSousa. Well, and Grimes. Is Grimes still on our team?

Given the injury to Dok and no DeSousa, 9-0 is pretty damn great

I'm pretty sure Charlie Moore was supposed to produce....something.

We also have Garrett, whose contributions mostly don't show up in the box score. He's quickly moving up the list of all-time great defenders...of course he's also moving up the list of guys who can't play on the offensive end just as quickly.

Garrett is a great defender.
Our best.
Self knows that.

I just wish he'd just pass the ball even when he was open until maybe next year.

And we all know he WANTS to hit that open three pointer.
I just dunno if it is his strength so far this season.
Self probably sees him hit some in practice and goes, 'let it fly', because he knows how important it would be if he COULD hit those shots.

Yeah he's great. But I don't remember a guard who the other team didn't need to defend AT ALL before. I mean, they don't even pretend to guard him. And it's the correct approach.

Garrett is actually pretty good at going to the basket. Good dribbling skills and finishes well. Would love for him to knock down a wide open 3 occasionally though. I'm sure he can do it.

Marcus Garrett is my favorite. The glory boys get the glory. He does the dirty work. Points from him are gravy.

All wins are good wins. Wins over the defending national champions are really good wins. Yesterday was a really good day.

A few random takes from the game:

1) Jay Wright tried to Big Boy Bill Self prior to the game. He had his team wait to go back out on the court until the crowd was cheering for Self's entrance and left Bill standing at half court waiting for him for a minutes or two. There's no way that wasn't on purpose; Jay Wright is too profesional to not have everything timed out to the second. Self looked a little miffed by it. It was an .... interesting encounter. Self isn't on the receiving end of that very often.

2) We had 5 or 6 offensive fouls in the first half and most seemed to be because our ball handlers were too amped up and weren't letting screeners set their pick. If they had waited just a second more they would have been fine. Glad to see that Self addressed that at halftime because I don't recall KU getting called for any of those after halftime.

3) Phil Booth is really good in the clutch. I watched him drain a bunch of tough shots at Penn and again against us. Some of those shots you just tip your hat to the dude and pay your respect to him. He's really good.

4) Mitch Lightfoot had a ton of really impactful positive plays in the game. I am glad he didn't redshirt.

5) Garrett has developed into one of the best defenders I have seen at KU. To be able to put him on basically any player is a tool that this team desperately needs. And Dotson is very underrated as a defender as well. He may blow a coverage every now and then but he hustles his ass off and really moves his feet well. Both he and Garrett disrupted a ton of plays even when they weren't getting a steal or deflection.

6) All of these tight games against tourney caliber teams are going to pay off. I don't know who else saw that graphic that was going around twitter a few days ago with the chart of the win% of all D1 coaches in tight games that had Self near the very top but KU winning all these close games isn't a fluke. That dude can coach.

Another win against another tough team. I don't give a crap how beautiful we look right now. We look like a team that is figuring out how to win games no matter what.
