And the pushing to lower interest rates on top of the deficit spending - it's nuts.

At what cost, though? Chiknbut highlighted what it's taking to artificially create that "great" economy. There's no amount of our money that Trump wont spend to inflate the numbers to make things look good.

You beat me to it. smh

I wish it were a surprise that so many heretofore "conservative", "balanced budget", "free market", "let business be business", "deficit hawk" economists are now so willing to forsake the principles they've staked their entire careers on, only to suckle at the teat of Trump.

Trump's crusade to marginalize and minimize America's place in the world marches on, unabated.

Our supposed Master Deal Maker president must be too busy energizing his racist White Nationalist base to take care of our nation's business:

President Donald Trump failed to achieve his much-ballyhooed 3% target for economic growth in 2018 after all.

Updated government figures show that gross domestic product expanded 2.5% on a fourth-quarter-over-fourth-quarter basis last year. That compares with a previous estimate of 3% and an upwardly revised 2.8% in 2017, the first year of Trump’s presidency...

Biggest problem with that is that small amount of growth is all based on massive government spending and tax cuts. We've completely fucked our future just to avoid a mild recession.

Wary of Trump’s Hard Line on Iran, Europeans Decline to Join Escorts in Gulf

With tensions rising with Iran, the United States and Britain have been shopping for European support to bolster patrols in the Persian Gulf around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage way for global oil supplies.

But so far the American requests for help to escort shipping in the Gulf have been met with silence or rejection, including a blunt “no” on Wednesday from Germany.

Maybe he wasn't looking forward to running while defending his party's leader, our Racist In Chief?

Will Hurd, the only black House Republican, is the sixth Republican member of the House in less than two weeks to announce they would not be running for re-election.

...Hurd’s retirement means that South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott will now be the only African American Republican serving in Congress after former Utah Rep. Mia Love lost her re-election campaign during the midterms last year...

In most Administrations a Harriet Myers nomination would be an aberration. In this Adminstration most nominations are like that. If it wasn't for GOP sycophants (looking at you #MoscowMitch) who have abandoned all principles and every sense of decency all nominations would be in that category. These guys must have some sort of record for most scuttled nominations!

John Ratcliffe (R-Loser) Gets the Full Trump Treatment

The resume-padding backbencher raved at Mueller on camera and found himself at the peak of Trump’s regard. But like a gram of pure coke, there are consequences when the fun stops.

The rule holds: Everything Trump touches dies.

From standing on the verge of one of Washington’s most powerful offices to a tweeted shrug of dismissal from the President, Congressman John Ratcliffe (R-Coffeeboy) is the latest, inevitable victim of the career-ending, reputation-shattering career curse that is Donald Trump.

...After engaging in some performative scenery-chewing conspiracy-mongering during the Mueller hearing, Ratcliffe (R-Foxistan) found himself elevated to the peak of Trump’s regard. That must have felt like a heady rush to the backbencher, but, like a gram of pure coke, there are consequences after the fun stops.

Obviously, Ratcliffe (R-Barely Knew Him) hasn’t been paying attention to the inevitable arc that affects men and women vastly superior to him in intellect and experience who fall into Trump’s trap. Trump wanted a blind loyalist, a man who would cling to him like a remora, utterly faithful, morally blind, willing to break the law for political ends, and impervious to shame.

Trump’s absolute lack of loyalty to anyone and anything is always obvious, but for whatever reason, the ego of Ratcliffe (R-God What Have I Done?) wouldn’t let him say no to the job offer. Trump sneezed, and Ratcliffe got political Ebola. Today, he’s on the inevitable road to unpersoning.

"Trade wars are good, and easy to win."

It's good to not be a farmer these days...

China responded to President Donald Trump’s tariff threat with another escalation of the trade war on Monday, letting the yuan tumble to the weakest level in more than a decade and asking state-owned companies to suspend imports of U.S. agricultural products.

The moves antagonized Trump, who used Twitter to accuse China of “currency manipulation” which “will greatly weaken China over time!” He has previously criticized Beijing for not keeping to promises to buy more U.S. crops.

Stocks and emerging-market currencies sank on concern a prolonged conflict between the superpowers will weigh on global economic growth, while haven assets including the Japanese yen, U.S. Treasuries and gold climbed. Investors increased bets on Federal Reserve interest-rate cuts.

“It’s among the worst-case scenarios,” said Michael Every, head of Asia financial markets research at Rabobank in Hong Kong. “First markets sell off, then Trump wakes up and this all gets far, far worse.”
