Hinrich shoots his average from 3 in the national title game and he'd be third.

Most surprising is that he averaged enough minutes. He did shoot a lot when he was in there

Perhaps even more surprising than that, is he made this list while unable to earn more minutes on a team that was otherwise afraid to shoot.

mpg are misleading since DNPs don't get averaged in as 0 minutes.

Exactly. Self used him when he needed a spark of athleticism, which would be more than a couple minutes... Or, most often, he wouldn't need him at all.

Same thing I think might be Cuffe's role this year. That "I don't need a basketball player, I need an athlete" game or two.

I really never felt like our guys were afraid to shoot. They just had a hard time getting open for good looks sometimes because none really create for themselves or others off the dribble.

Ochai and Braun would back off shots they should have taken often.

And they still both only shot 37% from deep.

It’d be one thing if they were both trigger happy. But they hesitated unless wide open, and still shot a rather tepid percentage

Braun just has a sorta slow shot so he isn't always as open as he seems.

For Och, if i am being honest, i didn't notice all these must take shots he was passing up....and I don't remember Self ever complaining about guys continually passing up open shots he wanted them to take. But maybe i missed it.

One other paradox from last year is that we really only had one good big in DMac, yet he still only played 23 minutes a game.

I think that should increase, plus upping it with 10-15 minutes of solid backup play (hold your ground and stretch the offense Cam?!), and we’ll be a lot better yet.

Sounds like Cam and DMac may spend quite a bit of time together on the floor.

I think, with Braun at least, it wasn't that he was hesitant per se, but that he just had bad shot selection overall. He'd pass up a shot he should take, then a few possessions later, jack up a guarded three early in the shot clock.

I think some of that is on Self. I think he rides guys, and then they often overcorrect and it becomes a cycle.

Well, I promised myself I would stop being so critical of him, but if I may say so matter of factly:

Braun has some of the weirdest shot mechanics we’ve ever seen.

Nah.

Not text book like Greene.

But I don't even think he's top 20 on the list of KU guys with weird mechanics in the Self era.
