SDS social media post implied they had heard something. Or at least that's how I interpreted it...maybe not a yes/no answer, but a "we can't clear him with what you've given us".twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:01 am"We havent heard crap" doesnt imply that at all.PortlandHawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 10:29 amSomething like, “we haven’t heard crap on that front.” He was basically implying he thinks or is working as if the current roster is the roster and we gotta deal with it.
KU's DeSousa SHOULD be ruled eligible but the NCAA blows....

Which is...exactly what we should have been expecting all along: the chickenshit "hey, you can play him, but we're not saying he's clear."IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:03 amSDS social media post implied they had heard something. Oh god.
I know the ncaa is arbitrary, but this could be the most egregious case yet of not clearing a guy on the possibility that maybe there’s still something else out there.
Staff at least got Silvio’s 6th grade report card to them, right?

Right, they have fine tooth combed every detail of this kid already.
And, I'm sure his guardian already had to turn out his pockets and underwear a year ago to get him cleared.
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
That’s another maddeningly frustrating element: these eligibility issues seem to be on the rise, or at least a regular fixture, despite the fact that a decade ago we had one ncaa compliance guy on staff, and now we have like 7?!
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
It's probably part-and-parcel of recruiting guys like Cheick and Silvio - they don't come from programs where, from the time you're in 8th grade, you're aware of the impending clearinghouse process.
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
Are we the only school recruiting such guys?
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
has any other school encountered as many eligibility issues as us in, say, the last 5 years?
e.g. season-altering personnel in jeopardy like Cliff, Cheick, Billy, Silvio, Silvio again?

yeah, cuz a $2500 online class so you can get into college is the same as crapping out on a $70k line of credit at a jewelry store.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:15 amNo. And we're not the only 1s who have issues getting them cleared.
But SDS isn't being held out because of grades. He's being held out because he accepted improper benefits.
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
I get it, but I'd suggest that a non-traditional background makes you more susceptible to getting "dirtier" benefits. The players aren't as careful/sophisticated.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:15 amNo. And we're not the only 1s who have issues getting them cleared.

oh wait! no it's not!
The jewelry store credit didn't matter, but this does!

Well, it helps when the jewelry store changes their story and says it's not true because the got paid back.
He was also out of school by then iirc. But I get it. They did it so we should be able to also.
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
That's for sure. No doubt about that.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:18 amI get it, but I'd suggest that a non-traditional background makes you more susceptible to getting "dirtier" benefits. Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
yeah, it's not like Silvio came from a traditional background where he could just get benefits the old fashioned Merican way, like forming a bullshit AAU team to furnish him and his family a McMansion and stuff..

do we?
I mean, sure, we've had our issues, but have any measured up to the McMansions and jewelry and cash-in-hand that have been alleged at other schools?
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
Josh Jackson's mother was mentioned during FBI stuff and it was directly related to her running an AAU team...."she's well taken care of..." iirc was a direct quote.ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:31 amdo we?

Zions family wanted employment and to move to town.....sound familiar?
We can't keep pretending we are cleaner than everyone else. It's foolish. We aren't dirtier than Duke or UK or wherever you're talking about, but we are equal. That seems fairly apparent. This is widespread and common.
Re: KU's DeSousa could be ruled eligible...
Watch Al Harrington talk about benefits he was offered to go to certain colleges. Eye opening. Lots of NBA players laughing at people pretending this is a shocking revelation.
