No shit. I'm not getting my hopes up until he's on the court for a game.

Only to get sanctioned for it 3 years later.

I will be the first to say WE NEED THIS GUY point to Hurt...but I would trade him in a heartbeat for THIS GUY pointing to a Senior Dedric Lawson in a Kansas uniform.

I wonder how, if at all, SDS's appeal impacts Hurt's decision.

Very different players, obviously, but AT MOST, there are gonna be two bigs playing, so McCormack, SDS, and Hurt would get the lion's share of those minutes, with Mitch (KJ?) getting the rest.

Would the possibility of playing ~25 mpg at KU as opposed to ~30 mpg make Dook more appealing?

When asked at the McD's game about KU, Hurt said they have been telling him to look at how guys like Wiggins, Oubre, and Jackson were used. To me that means he'd be used more as a 3 and a small-ball 4.

My assumption is we'd use him at the 4, in the same manner we used Jackson.

I'm not sure he'd play at the 3 alongside 2 bigs. Only because every time Self's had that option (McMorris, Ellis, Wright, etc.) the tweeners have always played almost exclusively at the 4.

Plus, Self clearly wants to play 4 out and Hurt allows for that. With other teams playing 3 guards, I can't see Hurt guarding a guy like that, or I should say, Self letting him guard those guys.

He's more Ideal in that he can play outside, but still guard a traditional 4 man. But, then that means SDS and McCormack split time as the lone interior big.

Not sure it really works to go back and forth between playing 4 out and 3 out.

4th season.
Right, I meant that if he get's hurt for a 3rd time, that would be a 3rd season season where we had to adjust. I know next year is his 4th, and we've only had 1 year where has not been injured.
Just a reminder that we went to the Final Four that one year. I'd like him to come back and we'll take our chances.
Very good point. I think we are all just concerned about him getting sidelined again in the middle of the season. Nothing but good things to say about the kid's attitude and effort.

I would think Hurt would look at Dedric more than anyone. SDS and DavidMac doesn't bother him. Having a #5 next to him helps his game.

Three scenarios I can think of why this years class has been a miss along with missing out on other players thought to be KU favorites.
1. NCAA drama
2. Self and his staff have lost the touch
3. Self is moving on and can't lie to kids when asked about his own commitment level
and. more importantly than any of that. playing time. our team is almost entirely underclassman. we had one senior (kind of) and no guaranteed one and done type players. we expect to have quite a few players back who played significant minutes this season. if/after dok and dedric declare (plus whoever else leaves/transfers/whatever) we will probably pick up some commitments.

nothing is more appealing to a recruit than playing time. nothing.

Ha. What Self is saying and how he'd actually use him are not related. Bigs always want to show off their perimeter skills so he's telling him what he wants to hear. I'd bet some serious Crim-cash that he'd play more at center than small forward if he comes.

Maybe? 90% of his minutes would be at the four.

Agreed. The remaining 10 wouldn't be with two other bigs on the court.

I don't doubt he'd get to operate on the perimeter - Dedric did plenty. But he'd guard bigs and be expected to rebound, set screens, and defend the post like a big.
