Planet can get along fine without a French Cathedral, not so much without the rain forest.

I think that was trads point. Amazon fire is a travesty. Not much news coverage on it but potentially devastating for the planet.

brazil, in particular, is so fucked up politically...in many ways

that these fires are apparently being set intentionally to open up agricultural and mining opportunities, with no thought to the indigenous peoples (some of the most remote remaining on the planet) or incredible biodiversity that will be negatively impacted, is so incredibly sad

That's beautiful! Love what the Brazilian Trump is doing down there! How can you not look at that pic and think what a great time to be alive?!?!?!

I'll do what I can i.e. recycle, conserve energy, contribute money to environmental causes, buy low impact vehicles but I sure as hell ain't giving up meat.

You'd have to think meat alternatives that taste exactly like the original are not far off.

I have a few vegans in my family. Trust me, they are still a ways away with the meat alternatives.

There is still work to be done.

Veggie burgers/imitation burgers are fine--sometimes ( rarely ) i'm in the mood for one of those Morningstar patties or corn dogs.
They aren't the real thing.
Bleeding beet juice?

Can I grill it over fire to the exact rareness and taste I want?

Put enough condiments on a turd - it will taste good. As 5 Guys proves.
Ok, in all seriousness, I have heard nothing but good things about the Impossible Whopper.
I'm strictly a meat guy but figure I should give it a try. Hopefully God doesn't strike me dead when I do.

Someone say FIRE?

i’ve already basically cut out red meat.

i’m not convinced we need to go vegetarian/vegan, but rather just be more knowledgeable and responsible about the meat we consume

diversify, hunt, buy local, buy as sustainably grown/produced as possible

interesting

hard to be optimistic about indonesia, given their history, but it sounds like they’re making strides that other tropical countries (such as brazil) could learn from
