B12 Awards

Post by pdub »

Guesses?

POY: Dotson ( I'd vote for Dok here and there's still games to be played but I think the ship has sailed and PPG is the 1st stat looked at - and of course, either player you can't go wrong with )

COY: Scott Drew ( even if they drop a game and finish 2nd, they'll give it to him i'd guess )

1st team:

Dotson
Dok
Bane
Doolittle
.......... i'd say Haliburton would have been in here 100% but with the injury, I dunno he makes the cut...so it's probably Jared Butler

Garrett on the 2nd team

DPOY - this could be DOK but i'm going to say Garrett

Frosh of the year - Jahmi'us Ramsey

While defending Udoka's FG%: "scoring is scoring!"

Dotson getting CPOY: "It's just points!"

Dok averages 1.75 points per field goal attempted.
With 13 attempts per game, he could average 21-22 PPG.
And Udoka does this with 2 defenders immediately draped on him when he touches the ball.

And let's not forget, Udoka's impact on defense >>> Dotson's impact on defense.

13.4 PPG ( 11th ), 11.6 RPG ( 1st ), 3.2 BPG ( 1st ), 70% FG ( 1st ).
Dotson doesn't lead his own team in assists.
Dok has my vote - ( and i'm not alone in thinking he could/should be ) - but Dotson will get it.

Who votes on this? Coaches or press?

If coaches Dok has a shot at POY. I bet coaches have to gameplan around Dok more than Dot.

I don't think there is anyway Jared Butler isn't 1st team.

Yea.
I bet if Haliburton hadn't gotten injured, Doolittle probably would be my guess for last man out of 1st team.

"The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players."

Just too many quiet games from Udoka and Dotson or Garrett are the guys that take us home. Even against Baylor, Udoka had only 1 shot attempt in the last like 7 minutes of the game, which was an offensive rebound putback.

It is just telling where the engine lies. From a personal preference point, Withey was the same way, and it's just not my style of player.

BUT, Udoka is turning in a little bit of an Anthony Davis-light season, so I get the argument that Udoka is becoming the main course of our meal. Overall, though Dotson has also been a main course and the dessert.

More tangent: Naismith left Udoka off its Top-10 DPOY list. I'd vote Garrett for the award, but it's an oversight not to put Udoka in Top-10.

There is a "Big 12 Team" and an "AP Big 12 Team."

Rush made the Big 12 team in 08. No Jayhawks made the AP Big 12 team in 08.

Udoka won us the Baylor game @ Baylor.
And Udoka is far more of a 'oh shit we have to gameplan for him' guy than Withey.

And by 'take us home' you again are just looking at scoring.

Really, the two Baylor games are basically the entire story of what kind of player Udoka is.

Please.
Then I can just say this:
"Really, the two Baylor games are basically the entire story of what kind of player Dotson is."

Last May you told us we would be better off if The Big Fella stayed in the draft.

I doubt that is true, but if it is:

1. I was wrong.

2. It was almost assuredly in the context of not wanting to play 2 bigs together OR

3. In the context that his handlers had no intention of him staying for this season and their hands were forced because he played hurt at the combine and did not shine.

4. Silvio's play has made me sad.

5. Udoka is 1000% better this season than a year ago for a dozen different reasons.

6. His improvement has confounded even the most reputable NBA Draft critics.

7. While likely untrue, what is your point?

I tend to agree that coaches are more likely to say Doke, and media (particularly those who don't watch every game) are more likely to vote the stat sheet (Dot).

Here's a hottake from CnB in late March:

"I like Udoka, but there is a rather poor chance that he is in good form for next year's tournament."

"But, he's not coming back. And the fact that he's not coming back makes me absolutely question whether Bill Self believes Udoka can ever give us a full season."

Here's a hottake from pdub on the same thread:

"Dok looking to play at a better weight.
If he can actually execute those shots in the game, he has AA candidacy."

On the other hand, here's a bad hottake from pdub:

"Chai will improve a lot I expect.
I think he could end up on an all B12 team at the end of next season."

Also CnB:

"Preseason Big 12 POY: Udoka.
Not Devon. Hmmm. Bet that flips for postseason award."

pdub not soon after:
"We'll see who posts the best K-Crim score."
