The Republican National Committee is threatening to keep its party’s future presidential nominees from participating in debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates, the nonprofit organization that has hosted them for more than three decades.

In a letter dated Thursday, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel wrote that Republican voters have “lost faith in your organization.” She also expressed frustration with the commission’s unwillingness to adopt several “commonsense” changes that the RNC has advocated.

“Accordingly, the RNC will initiate the process of amending the Rules of the Republican Party at our upcoming Winter Meeting to prohibit future Republican nominees from participating in CPD-sponsored debates,” McDaniel wrote in a letter first reported by the New York Times.

In a statement, Frank J. Fahrenkopf, co-chairman of the debates commission, noted that his organization has dealt “directly” with the candidates for president and vice president who qualify for general-election debates, not their party organizations

So in the run up to the 2024 elections the Trumpublicans have decided they need to preemptively give trump a pass on the debates in case he runs, because.....he doesn't want to answer questions about his involvement in the insurrection? or about his lies about the 2020 elections?

except it isn’t just for trump’s benefit

all of the gop “front-runners” will benefit from such a thing, particularly those that are currently legislators

The QOP has become so fucking crazy with their ideals that they know it's better to remain silent instead of explaining those ideals.

What a fucking country we live in.

Republicans also praised Sinema. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told CNN that her remarks were an act of "conspicuous of political courage." He added: "She saved the Senate as an institution."

Mitch is glad that she didn't pull the trigger because he wants the destruction of the Senate as an institution to be his legacy.

The Progressive wing of the Democratic party. Luckily it's just a loud minority at this point... But loud minorities in the age of social media can wield power.

Specifically, what rhetoric or legislation would be an example of hating capitalism?

The Progressive wing of the Democratic Party wants an even playing field for all people and somehow that is seen as hating Capitalism.

Well, in a sense, an even playing field IS antithetical to capitalism, so that kinda does check out.

But I think the “Dems hate capitalism” meme is so overblown, and so inaccurate.

At the end of the day, Dems overwhelmingly let the capitalists do whatever they want, just as quickly as the pubs do.

If there is some opposition, it’s just the “progressive wing” (mostly just Bernie), who few take seriously and most view as just some whiny old kook.

But it’s not like one party is advancing all these progressive policies that completely undermine the capitalist hierarchy. Far from it!

I don't agree with that at all, I think we're just too comfortable with the rigged (i.e. racist, sexist, lgtbq-phobic) American capitalism system.

Maybe I spend too much time on Twitter. And here. Not maybe. Definitely.

But your anti-Capitalist rhetoric, as you know, is very, very present in social media.

That voice is heard in things that are talked about but haven't gotten real traction yet, such as a wealth tax or breaking up all large businesses or making private health insurance illegal (I mean, just listen to anything Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders talked about during the debates).

That whiny old kook would likely have been the Democratic nominee if Pete and Amy hadn't bowed out before Super Tuesday.

Capitalism is basically a winner-take-all economic model. It’s an even playing field maybe in a vacuum, til you realize that once you get economic power it becomes easier to consolidate more, especially with no policies or other mechanisms in place to prevent as much.

If an even playing field is NOT antithetical to capitalism, then how come capitalism has created so much inequality?

And the racism and social issues you mention are all related to capitalism too but that’s a big can of worms

Sure, if you're referencing pure capitalism. But that doesn't exist (nor has it ever existed) anywhere on the planet. Having an economic system that focuses on profit does not exclude all people from having a fair chance to participate. In America, all people certainly do not, and have not had a fair chance at participating in the market. The system is, and always has been, rigged to benefit white people. Mainly white, straight males.
