And here I thought I was one tweeter hot take (that coincidentally fits your world views) away from restoring credibility. Go figure!

I guess what I don’t get is, if the protests had nothing to do with Biden’s timing, why didn’t he pump the brakes on bombs to Israel back in like mid-March, when twocoach’s links indicate?

Sweet condescension bro.

But if you really wanna have a conversation, let’s converse about this:

if the protests had nothing to do with Biden’s timing, why didn’t he pump the brakes on bombs to Israel back in like mid-March, when twocoach’s links indicate?

not to mention Biden signing an aid package worth another over $14 billion to Israel back in April?

(Asking again.)

Pro tip: Biden is hardly the first US President to use a carrot and stick approach to our relationship with Israel. The fact that you repeatedly treat it as some unique, unprecedented event that happened as a result of the protests on US college campuses reveals a naiveté you should strive to avoid.

Why did President Eisenhower threaten to withhold military assistance to Israel?

Why did Reagan withhold F-16s in 1981, and sell AWACs planes to Israel's enemy Saudi Arabia?

Why did George HW Bush withhold $10 billion in loan guarantees sought by Israel to absorb the immigration of Soviet Jews?

Thanks for the history lesson.

So why didn’t Biden apply his carrot-on-a-stick approach in March?

or in April, when he could have withheld that $14 bil, but signed it into law instead?

The shipment that is currently paused is not part of the recently passed $95 billion foreign aid bill, which included $26 billion in aid and relief for Israel and Gaza. Israel will receive the funding appropriated by Congress from that bill, the official said.

https://www.npr.org/2024/05/08/12500940 ... pons-rafah

Oh, if I misreported the numbers of the April aid package, excuse me.

But if that April aid package is not among the carrot on a stick withheld, then this “withheld” rhetoric sounds like only that…just more empty performative rhetoric.

Especially considering Israel is and has been brutalizing Rafah for a while now, which even that article reports, tho describes as “limited.”

But, the big question remains…why oh why would this withhold rhetoric finally come to be at this point? What could have possibly prompted it?

…if not for, you know, the protests across the nation and world calling for it. Nope, that’s just a coincidence!

No coincidence. Russia needed exactly what a terror attack would do for Trump, Iran and Putin. A purity test is a road taken by imbeciles to a destination they have fantasized about but does not exist. The trip itself creates a frenzy of unintended debacles and unleashes more and more fantasies and further purity tests.

Nations act in self-interest and must be reminded what that is from time to time. But there is no purity, only self-interest. Trump cancelled the nuclear arms limitation treaty with Iran, and it looks for all the world now that it was really a way to allow them to acquire nuclear weapons while pretending to be tough. In consonance with Russian interests.

Oh no! They feel the economy is bad after having been lied to about it. Not sure where those feelings come from if not the MSM. In the real world, things are pretty good despite the Russian wars.

President Biden, you've been pissing away political capital during an election year so you could support a controversial militant ally.

Let’s check in with their National Security Minister to see how much they appreciate it!

Quoting the current National Security Minister of Israel, one of the far-right lunatics Bibi had to make a deal with to gain and maintain power and stay out of jail?

His party only holds 7 of the 120 seats in the Knesset, so it's not like he necessarily represents a substantial segment of Israeli society. Which is not to say that many Israeli's aren't going to be pissed off, but elevating a man of his background in order to criticize President Biden, who's trying to save Palestinian lives, seems like a reach.

Ben Gvir a far-right Israeli politician who's a settler in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, who has called for the expulsion of Arab citizens of Israel who are not loyal to Israel and has faced criminal charges of hate speech against Arabs. He is "widely known for his openly racist, anti-Arab views and activities".

Ben Gvir was also previously convicted of supporting Kach, classified by Israel as a terrorist group, which espoused Kahanism, an anti-Arab and religious Zionist ideology.

Ben Gvir was known to have a portrait in his living room of Baruch Goldstein, a Jewish extremist and Israeli-American mass murderer who massacred 29 Palestinian Muslim worshipers and wounded 125 others in the 1994 Cave of the Patriarchs massacre in Hebron. He removed the portrait after he entered politics. In 2007, Ben Gvir was found guilty in an Israeli court of inciting support to a racist terrorist organization.

On 3 January 2023, he visited the Temple Mount where the al-Aqsa Mosque is located, spurring an international wave of criticism that labelled his visit purposely provocative. As a lawyer, he is known for defending Jews accused of terrorism on trial in Israel...

With all due respect, I just struggle to believe Biden is trying to save Palestinian lives.

Consider the way Israel has slaughtered (at least) tens of thousands of Palestinians, mostly civilians, mostly women and children, for the past 7 months and prior - with weapons provided largely by Biden, every step of the way.

But thanks tho for that info on Gvir. If that’s the kind of dood Netanyahu is making deals with to gain and maintain power, then pretty sure that makes Netanyahu that kind of dood too.

And though Gvir is from some minority party, it just seems a lot of the “anti-Arab” sort of sentiment may be a little more of a majority view yet, among the established western rhetoric, and even among posters on this bored.

Back to this thread - if Biden REALLY wants to save Palestinian lives, he should not only halt weapons supplies to the Israeli gummint and the wag-the-dog terrorist defending racists who hold positions of power in it, and not only demand a legit permanent ceasefire for overlander, but also should be OK with things like the ICC charging the Israeli leaders suspected of war crimes - an investigation that has been going on for years prior to 10/7.

But instead, the Biden administration fusses about things like, jurisdiction…

Remember President Joe Biden’s claim that he was going to unify America? When does he plan on starting? More Biden lack of leadership on full display. This guy is a total disaster. - Bob Berry, Oak Grove
