On another note.
8 year old's birthday today. The kid I basically played the role of parent to for close to a year and a half. Her mother didn't respond to my email asking if it would be ok if I sent her a birthday card/present.
In hindsight probably best I didn't - but not best that the mother couldn't/didn't respond to me.
I would have preferred a fuck you to a ignore. Oh well, so be it.

I would have sent it anyway and skipped the permission-seeking e-mail. Don’t give her that kind of power over you. If she keeps the present from the kid, that’s on her. That way at least you made the gesture befitting an adult.

Close to 90F here with a shitton of humidity. I spent the day working in the yard. Trimming bushes, spreading top soil, spreading grass seed, cleaning the back patio and grill, planting mums...

Afterwards, the place was looking pretty nice. I get out the sprinkler to water the grass seed. And there's a giant pile of dog crap in the middle of my front yard. I was pissed and looking out for all the people walking dogs. After watering and finishing up winding up the hose on the side of the house, I walked into the front yard where a guy was walking his dog. He'd just finished picking up the load and was heading down the street.

About an hour until the Chicago Marathon begins. Damp, cool, humid, rainy morning.
I would rather have someone hammer a rusty nail through my big right toe, eat live bees, and have a baseball bat shoved up my ass than run 26.2 miles today.
I do have a ton of respect for those who will be running today and I will be out there supporting them.
