It makes all the difference in the world, to me.

I do not want the schools paying the players. That's not what schools are for.
Hilarious.
Employees and members of these collectives get special access to the program.
Better seats / free tickets. Banquets. The works.
They get to hang out with the coach. Or the coach shows up to an event they want them to.
Then the coach and the program ( who are paid by the school ) take that NIL money and divvy it up as they see fit to attract the recruits they are after.

It's like saying "oh my kid won this board game I had nothing to do with it" when you directed him/her every turn.

Special access? Sort of like how TJ Gassnola sat with Bill Self at Bill Self's HoF induction?

I've been on bored with Self getting/deserving punishment from day one.
Another failed 'gotchya'.

The issue to me was the failure by the NCAA to uniformly punish/regulate.

college athletics says:

"if you like me now. wait til you see me in 10 years."

I'd put the odds that, in 10 years, colleges will be directly paying the players at -500.

Fwiw, it wasn't meant to be a 'gotchya'.

Why would they need to?

because in 10 years or so. the top 80 schools or so, will have cut ties with the ncaa. the athletes will be employees of the schools. the athletes will unionize. blah blah blah.

"Why would they need to?"

I'll pay you 1000 bucks if by April 12th 2034 colleges aren't paying players directly.
You'll pay me 5000 bucks the moment that they do up until that point.

Deal?
