a. Schemes?
b. Talent level?
c. Play calling?
d. Mental mistakes?
Well A is the biggest issue.

Those that say otherwise they are wrong.
Bold and definitive answer I suppose. But is it at least possible A and B are closely linked?
NO. Two of the bottom defenses in 2021 were Kansas and Duke. IN 2022 Kansas still at the bottom and Duke moves up to #36. So WTF happened? Duke got a new HC and Duke got a new DC and therefore Puke got a new scheme. Did Puke increase their talent level? NO

Like 2008, the offense was so good it put the defense on the field a lot, so you can disount some of the yardage, but the third downs and run discipline this year have been gut-wrenching. It is the scheme IMHO. KU has a nice line, needed to reduce cushions and gaps.

Fudge, I read a similar story. I called the Holiday Inn close to the stadium where I have reservations. No issues with heat but have low water pressure. How low is low? They say you can take a shower but not not much pressure. They weren't even going to call or notify me and are still taking new reservations. I have no issues bringing water to drink but taking a family with 2 boys means showers are needed. Calling around now.

So, after a few minutes of looking into this, I'm going to now have to buy a case of bottled water on the way down there. Tait really blew this one out of proportion.

e. All of the above

B is the one that impacts the in-game results the most because it leads to D and limits what you can do with A and C. It doesn't look like Kansas had an amazing recruiting or transfer season so far so it looks like KU will primarily be counting on coaching up the mediocre talent level they have. Hopefully they found a few gems out there that they get better than expected results out of. Fingers crossed.

talent absolutely impacts everything else
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I will say this.

Craig Young - Dawg. Dude has potential to be Big 12 DPOY next year.

Fuck. Think injuries hurt his productivity this year but had a good bowl game. Maybe Leipold and Co convince him to stay like they did Arnold.

Depth player though. Wants to start somewhere. There are RBs to fill the void.

Not ideal, but if there's a position Power 5 can easily replace in any season, that's it.

Wonder if he saw the writing on the wall with Hishaw coming back.

I figured it would be Morrison who would seek more carries elsewhere (which still could be the case), but this still isn't much of a surprise, especially with Johnny Thompson being in the fold next year.

Sucks he isn't wanting to stick around and work but good luck to him.

Now can someone get a couple of transfer linebackers and/or defensive linemen to come to KU.

They have a pretty good DE from Utah State, Daniel Grzesiak, that is either coming for a visit or just wrapped up. First played at Nevada, transferred to Utah State and almost had double digit sacks. A shorter, more powerful guy like Lonnie Phelps. He's a similar transfer as Phelps. Lesser level of competition but performed well at that level and want to come to top level and see how they do and Lonnie did really well at KU this past year and I think he's coming back for Super-Senior year.

Think KU has a good shot with the guy.

We have taken three transfer linebackers ly and two the year before. What we have so far this year is a DE from Minn Austin Booker another DE from Minn Gage Keys that they project to move inside and a DT from Colo ST. Devin Phillips

Our base defense is 4-3 one-gap scheme

Once Hishaw returns, we'll be fine without Thomas.
