Having issues with the multiple uses of usually there.
Is a bed of warm/hot brussel sprouts, yellow beats and salmon a salad?

A mixture of ingredients that are solids, are not cooked together, and, aside from the dressing, are distinguishable (you can pull out a piece and identify it).

Cheap spaghetti Bolognese might fit then. (I agree that this is hard to define).

If the noodles and sauce are cooked separately, I guess it would. Damn.

Can we please change to less controversial subjects, like "is there a god" and "is a taco/is a hotdog a sandwich"?

(sort of, in that there's stuff we can't possibly understand; yes, those are both sandwiches.)

Something my mom never learned: finish the pasta in the sauce!

Something Mrs. Fish (of all people, in that she's Italian) never learned: salt the pasta water.

usually cold.

I think it needs to be bite-sized in most cases, too.

Is warm German potato salad a salad?

If the answer to that is no, I think it simplifies things, because then you can say some of the ingredients need to be cold. That eliminates the Spaghetti Bolognese conundrum.

I have had bad spaghetti where they forgot to cook the pasta around the same time they were ready to serve the sauce.

Thus the sauce was warm but the noodles were cold.

Or, you could add a stipulation that putting the entire thing in the microwave will never improve a salad. Eliminates your bad spaghetti qualifying.
