Yea, another typically bad take from Ousdahl when it comes to Dajuan.

I could respect the opinion of something like "DH isn't the caliber of a Frank Mason or Devonte Graham and that's the level of PG I want to lead Kansas".

That's a fair stance. We'd all rather have Frank Mason or Devonte Graham too. But we haven't been able to recruit and recreate those career paths. It's not an easy thing to do.

He's not the caliber of Tyshawn or Doston either.
But he's going to start next season.

bad optics, nothing more
Agree with this - particularly AFTER needing a do-over on his off-the-cuff Kevin statement, he really shoulda been smarter than to give a particular portion of the fanbase more red meat here.

Lemme try this, then:

DH isn’t the caliber of PG I want to lead Kansas.

As for 2022 - the likely reason we started both Dajuan and Remy at the beginning of the season is cuz Jalen got a dui days before the season started. If not, who knows who would have started.

Jalen continued to come off the bench after suspension cuz, among perhaps other reasons, he was shooting godawful at the beginning of 21-22.

And the only reason, if I recall, that Jalen began starting later in the season is cuz Remy got hurt.

If not, who knows.

Remy may have been hurt but he was also playing like shit and getting roasted to oblivion on defense.
Jalen stopped playing like shit, starting playing to his ability and he hung onto the starting gig.

JFC.

Dajuan. The guy who started every game that year. And every game since.

What the fuck is the point of pretending the outcome was going to be different?

That's fair.

Unfortunately Self hasn't been able to recruit anyone better than DH over the last 4 years.

Dajuan gets too much credit for that. He was the least talented player in that rotation by a big gap, well him and mitch. But dajuan was surrounded by nba players and he stayed out their way, took care of the ball passed and defended

But dajuan no longer the young role player, no longer surrounded by older players and nba talent, and we need more from him than just playing defense and not turning the ball over

He's getting better, but his limitations will always be there

We need to pair dajuan with a quick athletic scoring guard. Someone with a good jumpshot and the ability to create their own shots

That will help people forgot dajuans limitations and appreciate him for his strengths. Because he is a really really good pass first point guard

My point is, 2-5 were already penciled in based on the returning starters.

The only debate really was who started at lead. I think Remy was speculated for much of the offseason. Then, days before the season started, staff started fluffing Dajuan as the system guy. Then, Jalen got in trouble, and another starting spot suddenly opened up, hence Remy and Dajuan both starting.

If not for Jalen trouble, who knows.

With a big question being whether/to what degree it’s cuz Dajuan’s been playing 35 mpg

No I don't know who's all in the portal. But there's a shitload of players and options, I'm hoping/trusting self and company find a player that fit that description

I think elmarko and philon both have potential to grow into those high end explosive combo guards, but probably won't happen until after next season

If he sucks so bad then what are people afraid of? You earn your minutes at KU. It's always been that way.
