With this team, that is exactly how our losses will look.

If we miss shots and turn it over we can look very bad. This isn't a team with NBA level talent. But it is a "team". With defined roles. Great experience. And great coaching.

But, if 2 or 3 staters play bad in a given game then we will not win. Because we don't have anyone on the bench that is good yet.

If someone besides JW could make a basket, we might have a chance.
A little defense and rebounds would help too.
Defense. Rebounds.

Self said on Hawk Talk that he thinks Yesifu will have a breakout game soon and be the bench scorer we need because he does it all the time in practice.

Sounds like he is trying to instill confidence in Yesufu.

It’s kinda his only hope if he thinks Harris is wearing down.

I hope that Yesufu magically starts to pour in points like he was at Drake because if not for scoring, he does nothing else well.

shades of Jeremy Case
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Is Yes supposed to get more time at the 1?

Like as a direct sub for Dajuan

Or is it more minutes out there next to Dajuan and/or Bobby?

Eek. Yesufu at the 1... He doesn't use screens well, misses open people, and makes bad decisions regularly. And he passes the ball to the wrong team.
I don't mind him as a 2.

I think it's just the best personnel available at this point

and the best way to bring a new look against defenses that are otherwise getting away with hardly even guarding the 1

and playing Yes at the 2 means we're also playing Dajuan and/or Bobby out there, which defeats the purpose of otherwise trying to make defenses adjust.

Think of Yes less at the "1" and more as the "lone small." Fortunately, Jalen and Mc are both above-average handlers to complete the lineup and help with handling duties alongside a non-true PG at the 1.

And, while Yes isn't a true PG, he at least has serviceable enough handles to bring the ball up. I suppose that's just one element of being a PG too, as we often have a number of possessions like "whatever dood gets it brings it up." Other elements include running the half court sets, but the thing is, we haven't been great in the half court either.

but yea, there's some tradeoff of having a true PG at the 1 to make things easier for everybody else, versus having more of a scoring threat at the 1 to make things easier for everybody else.

whatever it is, it's Self's big midseason tweak using the available personnel. And, the fact of the matter is, the tweak is prompted by the fact we been loosing, so we gotta try SOMETHING new out there, right?

but yea, I was also kinda hoping the dood who got Self's "he's been crushing it in practice and gonna break out" treatment might've been a big, or even MJ, but alas.

Do you watch the games? I am being serious.

Because DH is getting hounded on defense and that is why he is struggling. Defenses aren't "hardly guarding" him. They are pressuring him and being physical.

Not really pressuring, but being physical. Making him shoot running floaters.

They certainly aren't ignoring him like they did 2 years ago.

Semantics. It is hard to be physical if you aren't applying pressure.

Not semantics. Press, short for pressure, is a basketball term.

Bottom line is teams have scouted us and figured out how to defend us. Self hasn't figured out a good way to counter it given the personnel he has to work with. It's time for guys to step up and play ball.
