I like Las Vegas.
But I went for five nights once and that was one night too many. Maybe two.

One of my best friends moved to Vegas 18 months ago so I go hang with him off the strip. Those trips are fun and we’ll go gamble one night on Fremont St.

But “Strip Vegas” was ruined for me 8 years ago when I stayed in the strip (mostly for work) for 6 nights. I joke that the Strip has a 48 hour shelf life.

Finally reached the age where we are going to stop. Combination of the tables and restaurants getting too expensive (significantly outpaced inflation), the fact that I stopped drinking, and wanting to start including the wives.
I have never had the gambling urge. My wife loves it. If we go to Vegas, we get a room at Lake Las Vegas…she Ubers in to gamble…, I Jeep up through the old borax and silver mine areas
Yep, I’d be the one that says “fvck the casino’s, where can I go to rent a quad ATV and go ride in the desert, and give me the fastest one”…lol
I know that is your thing. You should take a trip out to Ocotillo Wells and rent a machine. Absolutely amazing area with so much cool stuff to explore.

All self guided, huge mud pot hills, former ocean reef, rock formations only found there, geo thermal features, and a badass 4x4 training area to test your skills!

Thanks, I’ll look into that. My younger bro and I were talking about doing something this Summer, maybe one day of riding ATVs and another day of renting a Jeep and go exploring. He’s like me, no interest in gambling.

Yeah the cig smoke is the worst. Surprised casino’s still allow smoking on the floor. Went to Harrahs here in KC 8 years ago or so and was literally sick by all the smoke. I couldn’t wait to get out.
I think most of the newer or upgraded hotels/casinos are smoke free, or have smoke free regions. Park MGM is completely smoke free.
I only came to kick some ass...

Those guys have balls of steel. I could never do that, nor would I want to because I would end up a quadriplegic. Of course those guys probably ride year round and make a living out of making crazy jumps. I get out and ride 3-4 times a year..lol

I want one of these. They take a modern dirt bike and convert it to a trike. I rode one several years ago, and they rip. I called them a few months back and they have a 1 year waiting list. I was just curious, don’t need to spend $12k+ on something I’d only ride a few times a year.

As an interesting aside, we moved to California in September 1997 and that Labor Day weekend there were basically two topics on every TV channel - Princess Diana, who had just then died, and how California economy was going to be in shambles because indoor smoking was going to be outlawed starting January 1. 1998. They ran pieces in 2003 on how wrong everyone was.

You know you’re on to something when indoor smoking is prohibited in Europe and Las Vegas!

I agree about the inflation: we went as a family to LV during Christmas break of 2019, just before the pandemic as the younger daughter had turned 21 and she wanted to experience LV. We were surprised as to how expensive everything was- used to at least get cheap beers. But it was $7 for a crappy beer and near $10 for good ones!

my last trip to Vegas was en route to Costa Rica (much cheaper to fly out of Vegas than SLC for some reason)

the wife and i drove down a day before our flight and spent maybe 2 hours in Vegas…Valley of Fire and Lake Meade are where it’s at

if you’re in the area and have not been to Valley of Fire, it might be one of the most impressive geological anomalies in the US…other worldly

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I could do 4 days if 2 days are spent golfing but that shit is ridiculously expensive for the sweet courses.

Imo the best part about vegas is the food.

Get off strip and there are some phenomenal restaurants at very affordable prices. It’s the tail of two Vegas, off strip is completely different.
