Thanks to DMac
Re: Thanks to DMac
I forgot Steph played another year of college after the KU game. Didn't even make the tourney his last year. Bum.

I do this with Durant all the time, but in reverse. I have to stop myself from misremembering that we beat Durant in 07-08.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:00 pm I forgot Steph played another year of college after the KU game.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I wish we could go back and see the boards when we lost to Oklahoma State and UNC, Memphis, and UCLA had a stranglehold on the top 3 spots. Just a couple years removed from Bradley.
The atmosphere in San Antonio before UNC game was very much happy-to-be-here.

If I get really bored some day, I'll go through and research how many players KU faced in either the regular season or the tourney who made 1st, 2nd or 3rd team AP All Americans in the season that KU faced them.
The 2008 team is most likely to win that race as they faced 4 1st team AAs in DJ Augustin, Michael Beasley, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Tyler Hansbrough, one 2nd team AA in Steph Curry and one 3rd team AA in Derrick Rose.

The 06-07 Texas games were legendary. Chalmers hit a pretty similar 3 to his Natty shot in OKC in Big 12 tournament in that game. Those games and the Florida game from the same season is when I started thinking that group could cut down the nets.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:02 pmI do this with Durant all the time, but in reverse. Yeah, the Okie State loss was the exact same day as the #2 Tennessee win over #1 Memphis. Similar to this year's UK loss, it was a "oh man, we are not a top tier team" kinda feel to the day.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:15 pmI wish we could go back and see the boards when we lost to Oklahoma State and UNC, Memphis, and UCLA had a stranglehold on the top 3 spots. And wow did the the thread get derailed. Dave did concentrate better and play better late. He became a free throw machine and was MUCH more aggressive when he played. He really solidified the post against big teams. And Remy was better as a secret weapon. Nobody accounted for him correctly until the FF.
Re: Thanks to DMac
Big Dave was the best player on the biggest stage.

Nailed this one early and it’s only getting worse.

Thanks to Durant getting hurt. He had 25 at halt, right? I remember watching that game and thinking “that dude is unstoppable, he’s going to be one of the best players in the NBA”jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:02 pmI do this with Durant all the time, but in reverse. No, that's not really what I mean. I vividly remember beating Durant both those times. I just tend to confuse the year of those wins, since the team that beat Durant was pretty much the same as the one that won the title (minus Julian).Cascadia wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 2:06 pmThanks to Durant getting hurt. Adrian Dantly was pretty good.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:54 am Depends on when you rank them. I would not have 2008 Curry in the top tier--thought 2009 Curry was the better player when he played PG. And then he got noticeably better after going to the league.
Durant, Beasley, Griffin and the tournament version of Rose are up there for me. Hansbrough's accolades are hard to argue against.
Wish I could put AD on there.
Defense. Rebounds.

I remember the Durant thing because Julian started out on Durant then we'd put Rush on him.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 2:09 pmNo, that's not really what I mean. Something else that could be confusing: the 2008 team kind of beat Blake Griffin, who really wasn't THAT Blake Griffin until 2009--not a OAD. He got hurt very early in the 2008 game--like first media timeout.
Then Blake missed the 2009 Sherron-Willie Warren battle with a different injury.
So I might have to take Griffin off my list.
