KU Self All-First Team
KU Self All-First Team
As much as we can objectively call it
Dok - 1st team AA, conference POY, FF, DPOY
TRob - 1st team AA, conference POY, all-FF team
Och - MOP, 1st team AA, conference POY
Graham - 1st team AA, conference POY, FF
Mason - POY, conference POY, BIFM
something like that?

Och - MOP, 1st team AA, conference POY

Re: KU Self All-First Team
If we are trying to make the best team with their peak Jayhawk season then….
People ain’t gonna like this and TRob is nasty good but I’m picking Wayne Simien. Unless it’s accolades for your peak season. Then it’s TRob.
And sorry Sherron, you don’t make the cut over Frank or Vonte.

Re: KU Self All-First Team
I may have to go Rush over Och, really tough choice though.
Arthur over T-Rob and that's not close.

Defense. Rebounds.
Re: KU Self All-First Team
I'm struggling with Och vs Rush too. Rush better defender and rebounder, Och better scorer. Not that either is bad at any of those things.
Disagree on Arthur. I'm with pdub in that I would take Simien there.
Re: KU Self All-First Team
Rush may have been better at basketball than Och. But Rush wasn't even 1st team AA or conference POY.
Sorry, at KU, without 1st team AA by your name in your peak year you can't be 1st team All Bill Self.

Re: KU Self All-First Team
i take WS over TRob for sure.
and any all time team without SC is hogwash.

"hey don't blame me, i am going to vote for some random dude"
Re: KU Self All-First Team
Depends on qualifications for the list. I'm not factoring in accolades. If that is the main metric then of course it's Ochai over Rush.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:44 am Rush may have been better at basketball than Och. But Rush wasn't even 1st team AA or conference POY.

I think the more interesting question is, trade Och for Rush. Is the 08 team better with Och? Is the 22 team better with Rush?

Re: KU Self All-First Team
You can argue guys like Arthur and Rush can't be on the list due to lack of personal accolades. You could also argue they don't have personal accolades because of how good the teams they played on were, and how many pros were on those teams.
For example:
11.2 pts, 6.7 reb, 1.1 ast in 24.3 minutes
11.1 pts, 7.4 reb, 1.8 ast in 29.4 minutes
Now, without knowing the numbers, how would Darnell Jackson be compared to Jalen Wilson?

Re: KU Self All-First Team
can a guy that wasn’t even a Self recruit be on this list?
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: KU Self All-First Team
If I'm picking teams, it's hard to pass any of them up.
Defense. Rebounds.

Wiggins was better than Rush imo.Mjl wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:57 amDepends on qualifications for the list. I'm not factoring in accolades. So if accolades don't matter then he's (Wiggins) probably on my team.
Re: KU Self All-First Team
He got 1st team AA while playing under Self, so i'd say yes.KUTradition wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 11:01 am can a guy that wasn’t even a Self recruit be on this list?
I figured you had to be a 1st Team AA to be on this list from the thread title.

Re: KU Self All-First Team
Well, also looking at the OG's post with all five of his guys being 1st team AA's.
Ous?

Re: KU Self All-First Team
i’ve always had difficulty considering the Simien/Miles/Langford crew as being “Self” guys, but maybe it’s just me

As much as we can objectively call it.
It’s less about assembling some hypothetical lineup to take on the tournament (in which case there are those Rush vs Och kinda of arguments)
And more about assembling the guys who earned the most accolades. On paper, Och has more than Rush, so he got the nod in the OP.

Re: KU Self All-First Team
If it's most accolades I think your initial five is correct.
Re: KU Self All-First Team
The debates are more like Graham or Mason over Collins, who has plenty of accolades himself
And how much you credit a natty as an individual accolade for a guy like Collins
