Who is the clutch player in 22/23?

Post by AlOerter »

We had several guys who could get a bucket this season. Ochai, Braun, and Remy. At times, Harris, J-Wil, D-Mac (especially post-season). Who is the go to guy when the game is on the line next season? Harris, Wilson (if he comes back), Yesefu, Dick, Clemons?

It's hard to say at this point. I guarantee a couple of guys will step up and take that roll. It could be someone I haven't named in this post.

If we are looking for a 2, DH getting to the basket will be one of the top options.

If we are looking for a 3, it's a wild guess.

I honestly wouldn't be totally shocked if Clemence leads us in scoring next year.

Unencumbered with any knowledge whatsoever on this subject, I feel I know the definitive response.

Yesufu.

You're welcome.

"Hi, I'm Jalen Wilson, starting center for the Kansas City Jayhawks, and I'm here to tell you I get my curls, and bounce, from Pantene Pro-V."

*cue to Jalen running hand through hair while dunking in slo mo*

then reprise it with a "Rinse and Repeat" commercial after he goes MOP change my mind.

Yes, IF Jalen Wilson comes back then of course it'll be him. But that's a big IF, and Self's recent comments gave me the impression he is gone.

Clemence leading us in scoring isn't really a hot take imo. Take a look at his per 40s. He scores at a good rate. He will be one of our most experienced players. Which is crazy because he isn't that experienced at all. But he's been with Self and Co. for an entire season. He will get a lot of touches down low, as well as on the perimeter. And he isn't afraid to shoot. In the training videos that get posted he looks GOOD. His body is so much stronger than when he got here last summer.

We just have to hope it’s somebody other that Harris.

I think Harris will surprise with more efficiency at driving to the hoop.

I hope Jalen comes back and he’s our alpha clutch guy.

Grady dick is the obvious answer.

Dajuan harris has grown a lot on me, but if he is our go to option for a clutch bucket, we are absolutely fucked

I'm hoping dajuan has a good off-season. His body should improve. He should come back stronger quicker and more explosive. His shot? Eh. Should improve. But long way to there before he's a reliable shooter

We should know within the next few days if we have jalen next year or not. I'd guess not. But who knows. NIL does change things a bit for guys who are on the fence about going or staying

Wilson benefits from coming back and proving he could shoot. But we have seen this before. The purest shot on the team is Yes; the Self route to victory is inside. Adams is that guy who is also consistent at the line.

the purest shooter is Yes? why do people keep saying that. I have seen nothing that tells me he's a pure shooter. He's a driver with a decent floater.

The purest shooter is definitely not Yes.
You’d think it’ll be Dick. Or it needs to be if he’s going to be the stud recruit as advertised.

I mean he shot 26% from 3 last year

38% at Drake

and 7% his freshman year

Best 3pt shooters:
Dick.
Then probably Clemence.
Then who the hell knows. Could be DH Yes Rice or McCullar.

We are going to be brutal from deep next year. Going to be a slow pace, defensive, grind it out, team. Which Self does well with, so I am not too concerned.

When comfortable, Yes has a pure shot. I think we will see more confidence.

When I think of pure shooters I think Ben McLemore. Brannen Greene. Or maybe Svi.

Not Yesufu. He simply has never shown that. Look at his career game logs. He is a volume scorer (can score a bunch of pts, but needs a lot of shots to do it).

I expect Yes to come back having shot 100 threes a day over the summer. Same with Harris. Dick too. You just can't win with a sub-par three point game.
