Man, I’ve been thinking about this one. Yea, early 70s Dead is prob the best.

Late 60s was some of the best experimental jams and such. But still not quite as dialed in. And still many elements of Pigpen’s vision of being mostly a blues cover band, and that sound evolving into the broader blues/folk/country/rock/jazz/bluegrass/etc melting pot of music the Dead is known for. Then the 70s brought a certain focus and developed sound to all that.

I’ve also seen a lot of memes citing Cornell ‘77 as thee best Dead show.

And the 80s had their moments but as a whole it got kinda slick and almost too polished. And Brent is so likable but he did also play too much of that synth effect that makes his keyboard sound like a plinky little kid’s toy.

This and the Playin' from Veneta are hands down the best versions. Don't bother arguing. If you think otherwise, you're wrong.

D&C are going to play Foolish Heart tonight. Might get a Mr. Charlie too.

Bad new for those going to the St. Louis show on Tuesday.

Yep, Mr. Charlie last night but strange (to me) is that D&C had played Foolish Heart in their sound checks the last two shows and then didn't play it during the show/s. I know it was on the set list for the 2nd night at Shoreline - and they never played it.

Last night's set list

Set 1:
Bertha
(Grateful Dead cover) (>)

Good Lovin'
(The Young Rascals cover)

New Speedway Boogie
(Grateful Dead cover) (>)

Smokestack Lightning
(Howlin’ Wolf cover)

Mr. Charlie
(Grateful Dead cover)

Ramble On Rose
(Grateful Dead cover)

They Love Each Other
(Jerry Garcia cover)

High Time
(Grateful Dead cover) (>)

Let It Grow
(Grateful Dead cover)

Set 2:
Sugaree
(Jerry Garcia cover)

Truckin'
(Grateful Dead cover) (>)

Viola Lee Blues
(Cannon’s Jug Stompers cover)

Althea
(Grateful Dead cover) (>)

The Other One
(Grateful Dead cover) (Verse 1 (>)

Drums
(Grateful Dead cover) (>)

Space
(Grateful Dead cover) (> The Other One (Verse 2) (>)

Wharf Rat
(Grateful Dead cover)

Turn On Your Love Light
(Bobby “Blue” Bland cover)

Encore:
Casey Jones
(Grateful Dead cover)
