That was my gut response, but I don't think so.

If I'm Leipold, I'm pissed at the distraction midseason.

I think they want to audition Leonhard. Based on everything I've heard, he's been "the coach in waiting". Here's their chance to audition him. I hope they go 7-0 and hire Leonhard.

Liepold was an GA at Wisconsin for 2 years and an assistant at Nebraska for a couple...I don't think those necessarily make them "dream jobs" for him. I've had jobs at other universities and I don't "dream" of going back to all of them. I mean, yes, he was at Wisconsin-Whitewater....but that's not the same as Wisconsin. I went to KU...I have no desire to get a job at Kstate.

Has he said that either of those schools are his dream job...I know they're better programs and have more resources...but just having a connection doesn't mean you take the offer.

That said, the worst thing would be a bidding war between Nebraska and Wisconsin. We might be able to counter one offer, but less likely in some bidding war.

Are we sure though? He was an All-conference HS QB and didn't (I'm assuming) get an offer UW. His ties as a player are to Wisconsin Whitewater. A guy from Topeka who goes to Pitt State doesn't necessarily have a connection to KU.

Well the state is home (and not very populous). At the very least, the Madison/Milwaukee area is much more home than Lawrence, Kansas and Kansas Football.

I'm still hearing that Nebraska wants a Baylor coach, either Rhule or Aranda.

I think McIntosh really wants Leonard to succeed.

I do too.

I mean it's not NY or Cali.... but its not sparse...gotta be top half, probably top 20 population wise.

Madison is 50 miles from Whitewater.

Do we know if Lance's family is still in the area. His parents or whatnot..?

That's going to be a challenging thing to deal with. Again, I think Nebraska is not going to be it for Lance. But I think Wisconsin has a way better shot.

What I typed does not read what I really meant at all, so I understand the confusion. Having spent a fair amount of time all over that state, it seems that the majority of the population is in the southern part. Meaning, I would just assume that the Madison/Milwaukee area is pretty dang close to where Leipold considers home.

No clue.

And, I'm not trying to talk any trash on Lawrence or the University, but they are as random to a Wisconsin resident as Madison is random to most of us. It's much more home to Leipold, and I agree that they have a good shot. Add on the vast difference in the two programs on top of that.

Rumors, rumors:

Leonhard is/was on Huskers' not-so-short list. (His coach, Barry Alvarez was a Husker)

Lane Kiffin is also on that list (dad was a Husker player and coach; born in Lincoln, etc.)

Fingers crossed for Leonhard to succeed. I think Wisky is the only real threat to poach LL.

Just read this article. https://www.yahoo.com/news/leipold-happ ... 51531.html

I think he will stay if KU continues to show a commitment to him and his staff.

“Paul Chryst is a close friend. I've known Paul since his late father tried to recruit me to Wisconsin-Platteville. That's a good family, a good man,” Leipold said. “That's a guy who averaged nine wins a year and got let go. But you know, that's a part of what we signed up for these days. It's a changing world in a lot of different ways and that's unfortunate.

“And I'm not questioning anyone's decision because there's a lot of factors that go into these (firings) that nobody really knows,” Leipold added, “but that's me speaking as a person and as a fan, not as a coach.”

It has been said that LL was at UNL when Solich was fired and also at UNO when Trev Alberts did not play nice/do well with the football program.

When the hell is Iowa State going to learn that they shouldn't wear non-school colors in big games (or in general)?
