Craigslist
Re: Craigslist
i never voluntarily place myself into a situation where i need a bodyguard. but i live a boring life.
"hey don't blame me, i am going to vote for some random dude"
Re: Craigslist
I sold a trike 4-5 years ago on CL. I talked to the guy on the phone a bit about the bike, what I had done to it, seemed like a nice guy and gave him my address (I didn't feel like meeting up somewhere and he lived in OP). I knew he was legit because he talked about having one when he was a teenager and knew quite a bit about the trike. It was also the middle of the day when he came by and he had a trailer, paid me the cash, and I helped load it up. Then we had a couple beers...lol.

Re: Craigslist
Craigslist has mostly become the haven of bullshit scams
Re: Craigslist
for what sorts of items?
I've dealt with musical instruments, sporting goods, furniture, etc.
other than some obvious scammy replies that are easy to spot, and have seem to become less frequent, it's always been legit.
well, other than this one time I had to kick a guy's ass for cutting in line at the bbq joint, but that's tangential.

Re: Craigslist
We were looking for a lakefront vacation house for July 4th here on Lake Coeur dAlene.
Every single ad that was in the $3-4k week craigslist was a scam.
I used to list boats for sale on it. I would say that 80% of responses were an attempted scam

Re: Craigslist
Tickets for sporting events and concerts are often (usually?) a scam on Craigslist.
Why liability (if any) does Craigslist have?

your posting history on this this site alone. says you should not be calling other people stupid.

Re: Craigslist
At the very least, I know Craigslist suggests flagging/reporting listings for folks trying to sell tickets above face value.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 6:31 pm Tickets for sporting events and concerts are often (usually?) a scam on Craigslist.

I’ve at least seen ads from ticket sellers saying they’ll transfer the ticket to you via Ticketmaster or whatever, but I dunno how legit that is, and Ticketmaster’s kind of a double edged sword too
Re: Craigslist
Craigslist is another victim of the publicity tied to times where Craigslist users became victims of crimes. Sorry, but I'd rather take the tax write off by donating an item over risking selling it to some weirdo on Craigslist.
I bought a weight bench off Craigslist several years ago and have mulled a few other purchases but I don't have any interest is posting anything for sale there.

Re: Craigslist
"tax write off"
Eye roll.
"donating an item over risking selling it to some weirdo on Craigslist"
Fair.

Re: Craigslist
My wife is self employed so our tax accountant encourages us to find as many write offs as possible. The write off of a donated couch is a lot more than the cash I would get for it and usually requires nothing more than a "come get it" phone call.
Re: Craigslist
I also donated a couch.

Re: Craigslist
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

tons of shit still gets sold person to person.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 10:29 amCraigslist is another victim of the publicity tied to times where Craigslist users became victims of crimes. most of it goes through Facebook marketplace, whatever that is, now.
I stand by my point.
Just Ledoux it
Re: Craigslist
We sold our couch through the Facebook monster.
Re: Craigslist
Oh, I agree. I see people randomly selling their espresso machines and other dumb shit on Facebook marketplace all the time. Just seems like a lot of hassle to make $25. Maybe I'd make an effort for a bigger dollar amount but again, I might as well just donate it and let someone else have it who has a need.TDub wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 11:25 amtons of shit still gets sold person to person.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 10:29 amCraigslist is another victim of the publicity tied to times where Craigslist users became victims of crimes. Re: Craigslist
I am truckless ( and the FIL and a friend who did have trucks have since sold theirs ) so the effort to take a photo and post on facebook is less than to donate it ( as we don't have places that would pick up a donated couch ).
