Pronouns

Man.

So after explaining to a new coworker that advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community is something I personally feel strong support for, they went on to loose their mind after I accidentally neglected to call them them

Like for real I’m kinda worried imma get called into HR today.

I’ve since apologized repeatedly and tried to articulate I really am on their side, and will be as cognizant as possible of their pronouns going forward.

But shoot, any advice on how to better articulate, and to better demonstrate advocacy?

LOL

Maybe don't talk about those types of things at work? Not the time or the place. Although I'm sure whoever "them" is would be so proud of all your advocacy work you've done on a messageboard of 17 dudes.

I don't know any of my coworkers pronouns. I call them by their names.

I don't mean this disrespectfully, but are you autistic?

the board was moving slow this morning. so the board bot spun out some content that might move the content along a little faster. grease the content wheel. get some views. some likes.

it was either grammar or holiday travel.

Is the correct usage of pronouns being taught in schools now? It's confusing.

I think the best solution for now is just giving everybody a they/them

At least until, you know, the revolution

Which should happen any day now, assuming even DC’s on bored

Just call them by their fucking name.

This isn't hard.

considering this is a made up story. i'll bite anyways. how does they/them/he/she/her/him enter the conversation if you are talking directly to that person. how does that work. considering this is a made up story and all.

or was this persons name *them*

I will use any name a person gives me to use.

I will refer to a person as a he or a she however the indivdual would prefer.

A singular individual needing to be referred to by the plural they or them is fucking stupid and meant only to garner attention. Sorry.

I dunno.

On one hand, it may be kinda high maintenance.

But on the other, I think the LGBTQ+ community has been through enough shit, both historically and in real time, that I’m willing to give they/them a little benefit of the doubt

You could probably avoid ever needing to use it if you know the name of the person (assuming they "identify" as a person and not a mailbox or something else).

Mailbox would be easy to remember.
