It is and it isn't.
Children are awesome -- if they're yours.
Other people's kids are inarguably overrated.
Therefore, if you don't have kids, not only do you not know what you don't know, but all kids are overrated as well.

I do know, as I have a kid, but understand the viewpoint of those who don't want them, and thus, thinking kids are overrated is not a 'you' problem. It's not a problem at all.

I think even "your own" kids are overrated as well, at certain times. I remember hearing about how children would be the greatest thing ever. The first two months of kid #1 I was convinced it was a giant conspiracy so kid-havers could enjoy seeing others feel their pain.
The older they get I think it starts to shift.
But then there's the macro level - I think it's underappreciated how breeding is necessary from a macroeconomic view.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
