NFL Offseason 2023

Chiefs shedding Frank Clark, which was expected.

What is unexpected are the Chiefs not planning on tagging Orlando Brown Jr.
I don't get their reasoning though.
Brown is worth more than a 3rd round comp pick. And the tag doesn't count against the cap.

If you don't think you can sign him long term, then kick the can down the road one more year, and draft accordingly.

I would assume that if they are not tagging Brown it is because they feel that they have another plan in place, either by trade, FA or the draft because hope isn't a plan.

I'd eliminate draft as that plan too because they could have franchised him and still drafted their tackle of the future.

Move Trey to LT, sign Wylie as RT. Slide Niang into guard. Draft linemen. Honestly I think Smith could play there and will need to be paid anyway once off the rookie deal. Fun fact: played LT at Tennessee

Where did you get that Franchise Tags don't count against the cap? It absolutely does.

Veach and Chiefs don't want to be dragged by the balls again until the final day that the Tag can be signed, so they're just starting to build for their future now.

Brown last year got tagged at $16M and that was against the cap. This year is a close to $19M cap hit. 3rd highest on the team as it stands now.

Veach has kind of proven he has a plan in place. Whether that's a trade or a trade up in the draft to like 12 and get an OT there. They will have a solid LT this year.

For some reason I didn't think it counted against the cap until a certain point in the season.
A non exclusive franchise tag, I read, would have kept him for 18.2 million, which would be the 6th highest tackle salary -- that's borderline there.
Still, if a rookie is your solve, I would have tagged him for one more season, full well knowing he was gone no matter what next year.

They're clearing a shit ton of money with the Clark and OBJ moves. If they sign Jones to an extension, they will have even more money to play with.

They're going to get someone big. Just don't know who or at what position.

I hope getting someone big isn't just resigning JuJu to 20 million dollars a season.

No way Jose. Think Juju can get about 12M per year. But not 20M.

Don't be surprised if they try for Laremy Tunsil and sign him to a long term deal.

Chargers got there starting LT in the sixth round. Now he was starting LT for Georgia so why he was still available in the sixth I have no clue, but both Georgia Tackles in the draft.

I'm reading that Aaron Rodgers is likely going to the Jets for this years 2nd and next years 3rd.
Garrett Wilson could be a top 10 fantasy WR next season.

Rodgers to the Jets is a Favre move. Good for him.

I admit I am confused. How is it good for him if it's a Favre move? Nevermind - Favre got paid 12 million to play for the Jets.
Crazy Favre and Jets thought.... He may have had one of his worst NFL seasons as a Jet and yet he was selected for the Pro Bowl.

You almost got my point. In 10 years Rodgers can steal money from the nation's poorest state to add to his legacy.

Chiefs abandoning Orlando Brown - he's gonna command too much money - but their apparent solve is kinda head scratching.

Jawaan Taylor, 4 years, 80 million, and will shift him to left tackle.
Is he even that good at right tackle?

You coulda tagged Orlando for that money.

I would have moved Trey myself. They must think he lacks the speed. But they still might. Niang my not be mobile enough for RT and might make a better guard.

I just don’t get it.
Why not tag and trade Orlando?
