Ever since signing what at the time was the richest contract in NFL history, Patrick Mahomes has watched as his annual pay slipped to seventh among the league's quarterbacks.

Mahomes indicated Wednesday after the Chiefs concluded their first week of offseason practice that he didn't find this development troubling.

"I've always said I worry about legacy and winning rings more than making money at this moment," he said. "We see what's going on around the league, but at the same time, I'll never do anything that's going to hurt us from keeping the great players around me. So it's kind of teetering around that line."

That's what Tom did. Be like Tom. Except eat strawberries and hamburgers and drink beer.

Which teams should target Hopkins:

Kansas City Chiefs

This is a similar outlook to Buffalo, a contending team with a high-level young passer and, on paper, has a receiver need and has been linked to Hopkins in recent months. To mild surprise, I haven't gotten the sense Kansas City is desperate for receiver help. The Chiefs believe Kadarius Toney can be the No. 1. The sliding scale on which Kansas City is willing to pay hinges partly on the faith in second-round picks Skyy Moore (2022) and Rashee Rice (2023). And like with Buffalo, cap space is a problem for the Chiefs, who enter the weekend with $1.6 million.

KC would have to get the Chris Jones contract extension done to be able to fit Hopkins under the cap. Not impossible but I think signing him is unlikely.

I agree.
Though they could, once again, rework Mahomes’ contract.

Whether or not they can get Jones’ deal done, I think it’s worth restructuring more of Mahomes’ money to land Hopkins.

I don’t think some people have internalized the degree to which Mahomes contract allows them to restructure every year with minimal consequences.

It’s a pretty sharp deal for everyone.

OK Boyd.
Now do Patrick Mahomes who played through his injury.

"Still to this day, I feel like if I would have played the whole game, I was the key factor," Boyd said. "We would've won the game."

Frank Clark signs with the Broncos.
Was an awful contract and a bad decision to trade for him but we were helped in the playoffs where we won Super Bowls with his aggression.

I think we would have been better without him with the draft capital and more importantly the cap space but can’t change the past.

That was always a looming danger with Hill. Kind of a rage machine without careful intervention.

Herbert signed for a lot of money.

When I see records like these, while I know they are factually correct, I kinda smirk.

“ The record for most passing yards through a player's first three NFL seasons? That belongs to Herbert with 14,089.

The only player in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards in each of his first three seasons? Herbert.

Joining Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning as the only other quarterback to pass for 25 touchdowns in each of his first three NFL seasons? Yes, it's Herbert.”

The one stat out there that tops them all.

Of the top 10 salary QBs playing, only Mahomes (8th place) has two super bowl rings.

Man. They have to contort around Mahomes. But Mahomes also won more games his first three years sitting out all but one game in season one.

Never worth putting too much stock into these early camp reports, but good to read that the coaching staff seems to like what Rice, Ross, and Prince are doing so far.

Hard Knocks is just difficult for me not to watch.

I’m watching.

Also Garrett, Lazard and Mecole is a pretty legit 3.

Fields > Mahomes!
Bears Super Bowl!

Ok, being serious. Nice for Fields that he was 3-3 for 129 yards and 2TD.
His 62 yard TD to Moore was basically all YAC
His 56 yard TD to Herbert was basically all YAC
His 11 yard pass to Blasingame was some YAC

Disaster for San Fran.
A 4th?
From a decent team?

But also, if you’re Tampa or Carolina or Atlanta ( hi NFC South ) or Denver or a number of other teams with a 4th more valuable than the Cowboys, why aren’t you taking a shot on Lance?
