I forget the numbers, the profit margins (both percentage-wise and total dollars) on trucks are much higher than for cars.

HUGE. Slight exaggeration, but it is something like the big 3 companies each make dozens of models, but lose money on all of them but a few trucks each. As the video pointed out, trucks do not have the same safety and emissions requirements that the smaller cars do so we are all getting screwed by assholes driving big trucks that do not haul anything in them.

There’s a fascinating article out there about how Tesla’s real business (from a profit standpoint) is selling…EV tax credits to the Big 3. The takeaway is that Tesla basically sells tax credits to other manufacturers, who do not make enough electric cars to qualify for the credits.

I also thought their bread and butter wasn't cars, so much as database management, as every Tesla mile driven is logged in their big database and stuff.
