This is a true statement in that, we only lost by one point.
I think Self would have us positioned to win that game by at least two possessions.
yea. I thought about this a few times during the game.

I thought, as long as we stay close, to the point it's within a bucket or two in crunch time, those are the sorts of games we tend to pull out...at least with Self on the sidelines.

We had the lead for most of it either way.

There was only one game this year where we were up double digits in the second half and lost.
It was this one.

This should rank this in the top 3 collapses in the Bill Self era.

Michigan
Arkansas
Bucknell? The loss to ksu at AFH in woolridge's last season ( the last loss at AFH i've ever attended )? Maybe that Iowa State game where they hit like 20 3's at AFH a few years back?

VCU is high up there. not often you get an 11 seed in the E8, and even less often you loose by double digits anyway.

Northern Iowa. That was, at least on paper, the best and most talented team Self has had.

Bucknell and Bradley too, if we must.

Maybe Oregon E8 in front of a de facto home crowd?

But if you wanna define "collapse" as less suddenly finding ourselves down and having to play catch-up, and more being up for most of the game and blowing it anyway, then yea, Michigan and Arkansas.

Those weren't collapses though - those were certainly worse looses but in those either it was a dogfight all the way through, we had to rally to get it close or we just got beat without making it a game.

Arkansas was top 10 talented this season. They had some injuries and underacheived this year, but was healthy for the tournament. Ku was top 10 talented and probably overacheived a little. The talent level was pretty similar

This ku team had some obvious holes. At the wing the team was deep and rock solid. But there were obvious weaknesses with the backcourt and front court. This team was not a final 4 caliber team. I surely didn't pick them to go that far

describe it anyway you need. for me, this game does not even register on my disappointing heartbreaking ncaa losses meter.

this loss makes none all-time nothing list for me.

Exactly. Lost to a talented Arkansas team. Theres several pros on that squad. Shouldve won, didn't execute the best. Oh well. This team was fun, but not especially talented or imposing

Nevertheless, it was one of our worst collapses ever -- meaning we were doing fine and then all of a sudden, did not, and then lost.

Ran into foul trouble. Young inexperienced post players, we started a guy thats basically a small forward at center and have a bunch of really raw youngsters. Limited shooting and play making from the perimeter. We saw it all season. I wouldn't call it a collapse. Just being exposed for what we were

largely controlling the first half and up 8 at the break?

edit: and up 12 with 15 min left

i’d call that a collapse

maybe not one of our worst, but still a collapse
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Absolutely a collapse.

Just thrilled we won it last year or this fanbase, probably me included, would be in a tailspin. But I've been indifferent on the loss this year.

Maybe being on a beach in San Diego immediately after the loss helped.

Not mutually exclusive:

A. This team probably wasn't talented enough to win the tournament without a lot of breaks and we didn't get those breaks by being down our head coach, drawing a very bad 8 seed matchup and being in a foul fest with a controversial block/charge at the end.

B. Norm didn't coach well enough to win and we, as a team which was coached by Norm, had one of the biggest collapses in the last 20 years.
