I'd also add that if we had been rightfully put in the Midwest bracket, i'm confident that even without Self, we'd be in the Sweet 16.

Auburn profiled closer to Indiana of whom we had no issues with.
And i'd think we'd beat Miami by even more.

A. This team probably wasn't talented enough to win the tournament without a lot of breaks and we didn't get those breaks by being down our head coach, drawing a very bad 8 seed matchup and being in a foul fest with a controversial block/charge at the end.

B. Norm didn't coach well enough to win and we, as a team which was coached by Norm, had one of the biggest collapses in the last 20 years.
Still 100% a charge. If you don't know the call, like they didn't and waited for 3+ seconds, call a double foul, give Arkansas the ball with 20 seconds on the shot clock and go again.

I would have liked our chances against Auburn and Miami but heck, Northern Kentucky played well enough to be tied with Houston with 14:02 left to play in their game. We MAY not have beaten them.

It's fine. We got screwed in our bracket. Every year a tough bracket emerges. This one is the most clearcut braket. 2, 3, 4 and 8 moved on. If we would have held on, we would have been only bracket with 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Looking at it again, over and over, it's closer than I thought.
I still think it's a charge - McCullar wasn't set ( he was fairly close though, both feet were planted ) - but Council collected and leaped right into McCullar, who had beaten him to the spot.

Inexcusable with 1:15 left to have a shot clock violation.
For me, that's not just on the players.

:53, Juan you have to at least try.

And then, man, sorry Norm, but you put in Udeh instead of Yesufu.
Watch Yesufu have to leap ( and he does a good job ) with everything he has to get that missed free throw.
Udeh coulda just reached up and gotten it.

All irrelevant on the FT offensive rebound if Gradey boxes out his man like he is supposed to. He was there for a split second and then bailed. And the shooter got the rebound.

That's a youth mistake there. A big one.

Yes, but with Udeh in, it doesn't even come to that.
Yesufu barely got his hands on that rebound and then completely lost it.
Yesufu is 6 foot tall, Udeh 6 foot 11 with a 7 foot 2 wingspan.

Norm likely assumed that he would make the free throw and went with Yesefu since they would need someone fast who can shoot to get the bucket. Yesefu should have easily had that rebound if he doesn't jump like a spazz.

They had a timeout in hand.

You make sure you get the rebound if he misses, you advance, you call that timeout to be sure to get the last shot with a few seconds to spare.

Yesufu is second worst rebounder on our entire team.

Also, Wilson actually was closer than I thought to making that an and one with 8 seconds left.
He split the defenders and just needed a bit more oomph on his attempt.

Extremely close, still should have shot it at the top of the key or waited for Dick to come around the screen. Going for 2 means everything has to go perfect to have a chance.

edit: and up 12 with 15 min left

i’d call that a collapse

maybe not one of our worst, but still a collapse
It may have BEEN a collapse, but it didn't FEEL like one. it kinda felt...inevitable?

I dunno.
I felt pretty confident up 12.
Arkansas isn’t good on offense, we felt in control to me.

Though I was pretty “fuuuuck” when KJ picked up two fouls early that half to bring him to four.

We weren’t given any favors with both our main bigs getting four fouls so early.

there were 8 fouls total called (4 apiece) before the under 16 TO in the second half.

We lost by 1. We missed 7 free throws. 2 of those were front ends of 1and1's.

Which equates to 4 potential points missed at most.

We actually shot right at our average - 72% - from the line.
Jalen's four in a row ( oops on the last one ) raised that average though.

DH missing FTs badly early and throwing some bad passes kept the team on edge. Even with the lead, you saw a different DH, gambling like Tharpe.

The 10-second call while up 4 (and obviously with the ball) will haunt me more than the charge/block or missed FT's.
