OK, so let's say Udeh's path in terms of overall production was that of DMac.
( I think his ceiling is slightly higher than that but OK ).

2015.
Top 5 minutes played Crimscores.

Selden .327
Mason .506
Ellis .524
Oubre .379
Jamari .255

1.9

2024.
Top 5 minutes played without Hunter.

Dajuan .432
KJ .548
Kevin .741
Furphy .391
Elmarko .191

2.3

So let's say Udeh is on the DMac path. His sophomore year would be a .330 so replace him with Elmarko and you got a 2.4.

Self got 2015 to a 2 seed.
It doesn't matter what those dudes did 3-4-5 years later, we're talking about a roster he had right then.

The 8 seed or worse comment is just moranic.

And a new coach.
I hear Porter Moser is interested.

We'll see if they can get out of the first weekend of the tourney and how he plays in those first two games.

yeah, i think the jury is still out
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Maybe that's fair. It's an opinion and you're certainly entitled to yours.

Would 6 or 7 seed have been better? I think it may be our worst/least talented roster of the Self era. We trade our 2nd best offensive player (and a very good passing big who can space the floor by shooting 33% from 3pt ) for two offensively limited bigs...on a team where defense isn't the problem, it's offense.

I appreciate your crimscore info for the 2 years you picked out...but I'll have to the return the comment about "totally different players"/years.

If you think it's impossible for Self to ever be worse than a 5 seed, no matter what the roster looks like, then that is 100% a fair stance to take. History is on your side.....but I am not as optimistic about this specific group of players we are talking about. We are flirting with the 3-4 range this season as things are currently trending, and I think we'd be significantly worse without HD. We can disagree on it because it's total unknown and projections.

But hey, if we go on a run here and beat Baylor KState and Houston and then win the big 12 tournament we could be a 1 or 2 seed still. I'm not giving up on the current team we have, but we sure need KM to play and play well.

"If you think it's impossible for Self to ever be worse than a 5 seed, no matter what the roster looks like..."

I don't think this.
But the roster, without Hunter, but plus Udeh and Zuby would have given us a lot more freedom to be aggressive defensively instead of Hunter worrying about foul trouble ( and just generally not being good at rim protection ).
I certainly think Self would get that group to a 5 seed.

An 8 seed or worse is ridiculous.
Again, that roster is better than Oklahoma's.
And Self is a better coach than Porter Moser.
And Self hasn't had anything worse than a 5 since before I was in college.

Is HD the biggest recruit for KU this offseason for the 2nd year in a row?

He means, since Hunter could go pro, and I hope he does ( maybe he could get picked up late 2nd ), that we'll need to recruit ( i.e. pay him more money so he can sport a larger collection of diamond earrings ) him to come back to Kansas.

I mean, for us to be the best we can be next year, is he the most important unknown to come back?

It has to be HD or Furphy. We know DH and Kj will be back.

And on the flip side of that, any players out there that you hope we poach from a lesser school that would provide some much needed shooting?

I hope we don't get any more potential super-star guards who also happen to be rapists.

That hurts production.

I just hope he spends all summer working on his strutting down the court after missing 10 free throws in a row. I hope he adds some sort of griddy celebration to his repertoire, maybe some sort of smoke a bowl or chug a beer celebration? I mean so many options, he can really step up that portion of his game

i know what he means, i just found it to be a silly question on this forum

quite frankly, Bill should be focused on outside shooting (keeping Furphy and replacing KM), rather than wooing HD

I am hoping one of (or both) of Labaron Philon or Rakease Passmore are good outside shooters.

Otherwise to the portal we go looking for a shooter again? Is Timberlake done after this year?

Pay DaRon Holmes of Dayton and Johnell Davis of FAU the money Hunter wants next season.
Send them some future draft picks if the teams need a bit more.

HD was supposed to be the missing piece after a season where a #1 seeded KU team lost to an 8 seed in the Round of 32.

With him we're now on track to be a 3 or 4 seed that seems to be on a similar tourney track except that we'll get a 5 or 6 seed in the Round of 32.

Self needs to sign as many shooters out of the transfer portal as he has remaining scholarships.

If DaRon Holmes stays in college and Hunter doesn't then that'd be a great signing for KU.
