I quoted that one to be sure you wouldn't edit it.
It was absolutely more Bill's fault than Norm's fault.

Self never would have lost to Arkansas, right?
Oh wow, you're still steadfast in the whole it's more Bill Self's fault than Norm's because Bill had a major health issue and couldn't coach. I figured a year later you'd rethink that but no. Amazing.
I don't think it was Norm's fault that we lost. AT ALL.

Tbh, I don't blame either of them. I blame the players for playing poorly.

....but I also don't think Self being there magically means we never lose that game. Self has coached plenty of games where we have lost and played poorly. Self has been upset in the tournament before too.

If you plopped the entire San Fran roster in Carolina this season with Frank Reich in charge do you think Brock Purdy has a pro bowl season?

Probably.
Because coaching doesn't matter.

If you say so.

I think you're getting awfully worked up defending 2 players that Self didn't think were better to have than HD.

Self chose HD over Udeh+Zuby.

How did Bill Self get the 14/15 team to a 2 seed?
Their top scorer averaged 13 points a game.
Their second 12.
And their 3rd 9. On 38% shooting.

How did he do it?
Or was it a fantasy?

Goodness PDub.

Coaching matters.

Worse loss:

Norm vs Arkansas

Or Self vs UCF or WVU or KState or BYU at home

????

If i ranked them they'd go (from worst loss to least bad loss):

1. @WVU
2. @UCF
3. @KSU
4. Neutral vs Ark

OK, so if coaching matters, then we can reasonably assume that:

A. Udeh and Zuby would put up better numbers and would be better players at KU because of Self's history with improving his players, particularly bigs
B. Self could figure out how to get this team to be a winning one and better than a fucking 8 seed because he's hasn't had a team worse than a 5 seed in 24 fucking seasons and that includes 2015 where his team shot 44% from the field and averaged 71 PPG and STILL ended up a 2

The team with Frank Mason, Devonte Graham, Kelly Oubre, Wayne Selden, Svi Mykhailiuk, Perry Ellis, Cliff Alexander, Brannen Greene, Jamari Traylor, and Landen Lucas?

Not sure what that team has to do with this team/roster and the schedule they faced this year.

But looking at it, I'd say having 6 or 7 guys who went on the play in the NBA helped.

They still shot 44% from the field.
And averaged 71 PPG.
I think we coulda managed that.

Oubre shot 44%.
Devonte 39%.
Frank 44%.
Perry 45%.
Svi 30%.

Fucking Jamari Traylor only shot 48%. They had to play him 20 MPG.

These weren't the players they became to be.

Still a 2 seed.
How'd he do it!?

If your baseline stance is Self can coach any team with any personnel to a 5 seed or better then that's certainly an acceptable stance to have as history is on your side.

And I think ANY player would be better being coached by Self than Dixon or Pitino....so no argument there.

But I think this team would be historically bad (for Self teams at KU) without our AA center averaging 18pts and 11rebs and playing 32mpg while consistently staying out of foul trouble.

I think you need to take a look at the history of Self's success at the college level and the number of times he's been better than an 8 seed as a coach and then realize that would be very very very unlikely to happen.

And no, not any team, with any personnel.
But certainly this roster minus Hunter plus Udeh and Zuby.

I am assuming since you didn't rank the losses above that you agree the WVU UCF KState and BYU loss at home are all worse than losing to Arkansas in the 2nd round of the tourney?

Those were not NCAA tournament losses.
In a vacuum, absolutely.

Bill Self coaches Kansas to a win last season vs Arkansas.

And last years team is better than this one.
The great Hunter Dickinson has us in the tied for the worst seed under Bill Self territory.

Against the schedule we played, and with the players were talking about having, I disagree.

That's okay. I know you're not happy about it, but I am extremely happy we have Hunter Dickinson so that we are once again a 5 seed or better.

Then i'll just mark you down as thinking Bill Self isn't any better of a coach than Porter Moser.

Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't. I'd certainly have liked him to be on the bench instead of in the hotel during the game. I will always prefer Self to be coaching over Norm or anyone else.

But let's be honest, Self has a list of tournament upsets that are worse than Norm's loss to Arkansas. We were only 3.5pt favorites against Arkansas. It wasn't even a huge upset other than the seeds.

Arkansas was better than their seed, yes.
But that line very much moved from bettors understanding that Bill Self wouldn't be coaching and laying it on Arkansas.

Bill Self is worth at least 2 points.

Norm couldn't even get the right guys in for an extremely important rebounding opportunity.

LOL

Even Coach K and Roy had down years.

Self has avoided it. And thanks to Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar transferring to KU he's avoided a possibly disaster this year.

And if Hunter and McCullar don't come here, Self finds other players to.
You're quite bad at this.

If you were living in California and there was pure sun for 25 days straight you'd go to bed on the 26th day and say, "I bet it rains tomorrow."

Based on what I am finding the spread I gave you was the open....

It closed at KU -1.5

And Bill Self didn't coach in the B12 tournament and was extremely doubtful to coach for the first weekend IF at all.

I'm not sure what your point is but it sure seems like you STILL, after a year, don't think Self could have coached better than Norm in that game enough to have gotten us a win.
