Joel!

First Jayhawk to win MVP since Wilt in the 60s.

Am I the only one who smirked that he won it the day after his team beat the Celtics on the road without him and Jokic put up 39 and 16 on the Suns?

Not according to the comments below this post on twitter, where Embiid is taking a beating.

Congrats. I'm happy you made money off of Joel.
Let me guess, you won't donate a single penny of your winnings to a charity/cause he is involved with.
Heck, you probably scoff at at least one of them.

9 is awfully generous!
I'm not saying Joel doesn't deserve it because I absolutely feel he does. I also feel it was worthy of my smirk being that one guy's team did ok without him and the other guy's team had a monster performance from their player.
Which brings me to what often gets discussed. What does MVP really mean? Is Joel truly the most valuable player? Maybe he is but specifically to who/m? His team? The league? Why is an award given to the most valuable player but not the best player? Or is the most valuable player not supposed to go to the most valuable player and it actually does go to the best player?

P.S. The 76ers went 11-5 without Embiid this season. Granted, one could say/argue many of those wins came against not good NBA teams but a few came against good teams.
11-5 is a 68.75 win percentage without Embiid.
The 76ers were 43-23 with Embiid. That's a 65.15 win percentage.
Take all of that for what it's worth - which is probably nothing if we are discussing MVP awards.

Not meaningless to Joel. I'm extremely happy for him. To the point of I will personally congratulate him.
I do think/feel/believe the award is worthy of myself and others making it a "thing".
I'm not a smart guy so maybe that's part of why the meaning of Most Valuable Player is vague and not defined - to me.

Good for you and perfect timing! Perhaps you can send the acknowledgement letter and a giant fuck you to the 76ers organization.

But this thread is about embiid. I get an mvp doesn't seem like a huge deal to guys that already won a couple. But to embiid this means everything. To that skinny kid from Africa chasing a dream, this is a testament to everything he's ever worked on
