Any advice on how to get used to driving a turbocharged car?

It’s so weird to have to floor it, then sit there and wait in anticipation of the car even moving

Yeah, install a performance waste gate.

A lot depends on the transmission, too. Lots of manufacturers bolt turbos on to underpowered engines (to make low HP look better), but mate it all with a transmission that makes the turbo damn hard to make use of.
