Which is precisely why, even tho I like fireworks as much as the next person, I've never been willing to spend hardly any $ on them, because I'd rather save my $ to spend on something, nearly anything else, than to watch it go up in smoke.

That's an amazing video, Gutter.

We saw this from our house last year. The summit was mostly covered in clouds that night. We missed it this year as we were back in KC having left town on the 30th.

You can get a full day's worth of entertainment out of $100 in fireworks if you shop right. That's cheaper than dinner and a movie for my family of four and lasts longer. That's more my approach to fireworks since my kids don't really like big, loud noises and my wife doesn't like big, loud expenses.

Or you can buy a bunch of huge "end of show" type things like in those videos, spend $1000 and be done in 30 minutes.

I call it the "city kids vs country kids" mentality. My cousins who grew up in bigger cities and didn't spend their 4th of July as kids on farms or other places where fireworks were legal now spend $1000+ and buy huge displays like you'd see in a firework show finale. I grew up in a smaller city and spent every 4th of July on a farm where you shot off fireworks all day long while the food and homemade ice cream was getting made. Me and my kids do fireworks all day and then when it gets dark we sit back and watch my cousins blow their wad of cash.
