The scary thing?
Oklahoma is even better on defense than TCU and UCF.

I still think we win the B12 though.

We have a really good starting 4. If one or more of those has a bad game we will struggle and probably lose.

Another 1 seed more than likely.

"Not great" enough for KU fans?

Wellllll we could do this dance again ( I don’t think we will ) that mighta led to you quitting for a while but this team has similar deficiencies so far to last seasons — one I pointed out why were an overrated one.

Clearly we are good…but I don’t think we are a top 4 team in the country yet.

At the moment we are 43rd in AdjO.
That won’t win you a title.

Alabama is #1 in AdjO. Baylor is #3. Uconn #4. And UK #9.

I think we are better than all of those teams. Don't you?

There are a shitload of teams ranked ahead of us in AdjO that I think we are better than. Titles aren't determined by AdjO ranking on Kenpom. They are determined by winning 6 games in a row in March/April.

What teams are definitely better than KU? Purdue, Arizona, Houston? Who else has a case?

AdjO champions before NCAA tournament:

UConn 3rd
KU 6th
Baylor 3rd
KU 8th
Virginia 2nd
Nova 1st
UNC 4th
Nova 11th
Duke 3rd

You have to go back to UConn in 2014 ( which was just an outlier to begin with and they certainly weren't one of the best teams in the country ) to find a team without a top 20 adjO going into March Madness.

I think UConn beats us on a neutral floor. This is gross but Duke too.

This isn’t saying we won’t improve and get there—we just aren’t there yet.

What about AdjD going into the tournament? Is it similar?

KU went into 22 with a sub 25 adjD.
It’s important but take a look at the list above ( adjO ).
No champion went in with as poor a score as we have now.

Looked those champs back up:

Champ - AdjO - AdjD

UConn 3rd - 18th
KU 6th- 34th
Baylor 3rd - 44th
KU 8th - 1st
Virginia 2nd - 3rd
Nova 1st - 32nd
UNC 4th - 26th
Nova 11th - 6th
Duke 3rd - 57th

Average 4.6 overall AdjO.
Average 24.5 overall AdjD.

was not a great effort, a very lackadaisical, disinterested effort. I won't worry too much yet.

we do this song every concert. It just came early in the set list this year.

The Turnovers are concerning, as is the constant allowance of players to have career performances against us night in and night out.

We will be ok.

I want to say ESPN matchup predictor only had us at like 60% to win, so it wasn't a huge shock. Weird travel schedule this week with UCF in the mix.

UCF has a top 25 defense and obviously it was their biggest game in, what'd they say, 17 years? Self now knows we have to work hard on breaking a zone.

The other issue is there aren't a lot of teams with such a poor adjO at this point in the year that improve enough to get into the top 20.

Kenpom and Barttorvik do not like us right now.
( 22nd in TRank )
We need a classic double digit Saturday win at AFH v OU.

I'm going to guess that line will be something like -4.5 KU though.

Thankfully we don't have to beat teams of the past. We just have to beat the teams from this year, and the teams this year simply aren't that good.

We have the best offensive duo in the country. Hopefully the can drag us to the final four. Kenpom rankings be damned.

Houston is pretty damn good.
Loosing at ISU ( a top 25 team ) on a turnaround jumper like that kid made isn't that much of a blemish.
I still think UConn is pretty terrifying -- they didn't have Stephon Castle at AFH.

No doubt we have the best offensive duo in the country.
And we are filling a fifth spot with what looks like will be one of two freshmen.
Hopefully one of those two emerge in February to March.

Tennessee also lost tonight.

Uconn struggled with an awful Xavier team.

Oklahoma lost to TCU. Marquette lost to Butler.

Everyone has blemishes. It's a strange year.
