The others, sure.
Win as a team. Lose as a team. Squish gently as a team.
Fair enough. A weak link or weak links in the main rotation is definitely a problem. It only takes 1 guy to fuck it up for the other 4 out there.
I don't think this team is beyond redemption. I agree that KJ and Kevin are tough as nails and that Juan has been through the gauntlet at KU. I just don't know if that's enough, when we're essentially playing 3 on 5 on defense.

Over a large enough sample size we will get exposed (several times) because of what you mention and our lack of outside shooting....but over a 6 game sample size, in a very down year of CBB, I think this team has the parts to win it all. We have the best core 4 in the country and it's not particularly close imo.

Here is an example how:

I won't call kj or km soft

But dajuan?
What's your definition of soft?

Dude has played and won a ton of big games in his career. That doesn't mean he's always perfect in clutch situations, but to me he has shown countless times that he will not be overwhelmed by the moment and often times he's made big plays in big moments. He's not soft in my eyes.

Hunter isn't battle tested so I think he's still soft. At least a little bit.

The others? Soft. Furphy was awful when it mattered most yesterday. Simple rebounding principles and he's wide eyed ball watching.
I sort of agree. Dajuan isn't soft. But he's not your typical "not soft" either

Because as far as guards go, he isn't strong, physical, or a guy you can expect to just go get u a bucket

There is for sure some mental toughness and poise there tho

He definitely isn't the typical "not soft" that we have seen at KU the last 20 years. Especially when the bar has been set by Frank Mason.

I don't think scoring ability has much to do with soft or not soft for me.

Juan is a useful player. But he’s going to slot in among Bill’s PGs…where exactly? Because I think he gets treated like a second-tier guy, and I’m not sure he’s even a third-tier guy.

We have GOT to stop putting this many eggs in such limited baskets. The Garrett/Harris decade cannot end soon enough.

He’s better than EJ and Tharpe if that’s what you’re implying.

Garrett never won anything. Juan has. They aren't in the same tier.

And, for PGs especially, how the team performs with you as PG (win loss wise) matters.

Are we talking 1 on 1? Or team basketball? Because Rio Adams would beat Juan 1 on 1....but in team basketball Juan is way better.

I think this is true. But is he better than Garrett? I’m not sure.

Marcus Garrett?

You can't be serious. Marcus Garrett was better as a small ball 4 than a PG.

I think Garrett’s defensive ability and versatility might more than make up for any Harris edge on the offensive end.

Again, at least to me, MGs defense was better as a small ball 4 than a PG.

I think MG was not good as a PG. Maybe the worst we've had, even though I think he was "better" than Tharpe as a whole.

Marcus Garrett.... not your typical point guard. Really good player, oddly specific skillset. Best defender ever maybe... couldn't shoot to save his life

If 2020 doesn't get canceled, he might be remembered different

His season season leaves a bad taste, but let's not forget he was asked to play completely out of his skillset to try to help the team. We were using a defensive specialist as a "lead guard" we ran our offense through

Was dajuan a better point guard than MG? Absolutely

Was dajuan a better player than MG? I don't think so. MG was a far bigger far superior athlete

Sadly the only player we all think dajuan was better than is fucking tharpe

I don't think I'd say he was better than EJ. EJ was a far superior talent

Dajuan has to be the most polarizing player in the Self era. Limited talent, buy very effecient useful college player

He's basically the pg version of Brady Morningstar

EJ may have been a superior talent but certainly wasn’t a better point guard.

Here’s one other difference between Dajuan and the EJ/Tharpe/Garrett end of this discussion.

All those other dudes were basically one-and-done as lead guards at KU.

We’re on our 3rd year of Dajuan starting, with a 4th year likely

No doubt.
He should be better this season.
I don't see any improvement from last to this.

I would add, though, it wasn't our offense that was the issue vs WVU, it was our defense.
And Harris led our team in steals -- I don't think the defensive issues for our team were on him.

WVU scored 91 on us.
We shouldn't be letting ANY team score 91 on us but especially not WVU.
