We have done that this year, we just didn't do it last night. Even elite teams lose. And elite is relative to a given year and this year KU is as elite as anyone not named UConn/Purdue.

Maybe I am wrong, but it sure feels like you're hell bent on being negative about this team because you hate NIL and don't like HD.
And you seem hell bent on being positive about yet another loss away from AFH to a team that won't make the tourney.
KState will (probably) make the tournament.

The big12 is a gauntlet. Winning on the road isn't easy. Especially to an in-state rival, coming off of 4 straight losses.

They were in desperation mode, in their super bowl, at home with a juiced crowd giving them a lift.

To me, this loss isn't even remotely the same as the UCF loss or the WVU loss where we were 10pt+ favorites.

Some of you don't handle losses very well. You did the same thing with the Chiefs all year after every loss.

And now they're in the super bowl.

When you've got 2 AAs and a Bill Self, you're a contender....just like when you've got the greatest QB/TE duo to ever do it and Andy Reid.

Being the best team in the regular season means nothing. Winning a national championship is all that matters. 1 seed would have been nice, but being a 2 or 3 isn't the end of the world.

I am old enough to remember losing 3 straight in 2008 and people thought the world was ending. Then we won it all and nobody remembered all the negative shit they thought a month before.

Dumb.
Then most of Self's teams have been failures and his seasons have meant nothing.
18 seasons of nothing.

We didn't loose 3 straight in 2008.
Hell, we only lost 3 games all season.
Check the memory banks.

They don't hang banners in AFH for being a 1 seed or being ranked #1 in a poll.

I know you reeeeaaaally want the conference race to matter, but it's the 2nd or 3rd goal on the list for this team. The top goal is to win a national title.

This team has two national champions on it (DH and Kj) and 2 guys who came here to win a national championship (KM and HD).

I want to be valedictorian of my school.
I also want straight A's.

Get straight A's but don't do as well on the SAT as a few people in your class.
Don't get valedictorian.

"I did all this for nothing."

Sorry, you're right, lost 2 of 3. With 3 losses between Jan 30th and Feb 23rd.

(KState was one of them, and all were on the road)

This isn't school (well, nevermind). This is sports. When you're the elite of the elite in a sport, winning championships matters.

I very well remember the OSU game.
There was a meltdown b/c it was a shit team.
The other two losses were roadies v top 25 squads.

You are saying it is ALL that matters.
Which is dumb.

Also, the Big 12 regular season is a championship.
It is why they call us champions of the regular season when we win it.

Now we're arguing over word choice.

It's obviously not ALL that matters. How you win matters too. I don't want to win nattys with a team full of rapists and murderers.

The big 12 regular season title would be 3rd on my list of goals this year. 2nd or 3rd on the teams list I imagine.

So to be clear, being the best team in the regular season means nothing. Winning a national championship is all that matters. But it also matters how you win in the regular season. So if you're winning a lot that's good. Winning a lot, to me, coincides with winning the regular season. But that doesn't matter. Just as long as there aren't murderers and rapists.

Fucking LOL.

The regular season, 18 games, is more important to Bill Self and the team then a 4 game tournament in Missouri.

At this stage in Bill Self's career I think the main goal is national championships. I don't think he's hanging around another 5 or so year's to accumulate more regular season conference titles.

Sure, winning them is nice, but the real goal is to win in April.

I was unaware that was such a hot take.

Yes. It's a tournament. On a "neutral" floor. In a conference with an uneven schedule.

When you win it they call you the "big 12 tournament champions".

For teams that have to win their conference tournament to get into the NCAA tourney, the conference tournament should be most important.

We are not one of those teams.

You might have just made my point for me.

There is a reason the auto bid goes to the conference tournament winner and not the team at the top of the regular season standings (in most conferences, i think one goes to regular season champ, Ivy league?)

Bill Self:

"I've always put a lot of stock in conference championships. If you don't make sure it's important to your players, how would you keep them motivated all year long?

"I tell them, 'Why would you want to make a big deal about winning a national championship when you're not even the best team in your league?'"
