That’s to say, fewer mpg, and with depth options to spell/counter the holes in their games.

It sounds a tad callous, I know. But come on, we’re a blue blood, and shouldn’t/shouldn’t have to afford multi-year starting roles to players with such incomplete skill sets.
This is what we all want. Dajuan just needs a little more rest.

Hunter and KJ need less minutes, but also to be spelled by guys with different skillsets

Yea.

So much of what made Remy so effective is that when he was in the opposing D had to adjust.

We need a guard who can make opposing Ds adjust.

Russ Rob had holes. Sasha Kaun had holes. Darnell Jackson had holes.
Did they? What were they? None of them had holes, Russell certainly didnt.

And back in 08 old school power forwards were still a thing, and bigs were not expected to shoot from the perimeter

Even if it’s just one or two who, say, don’t quite have a j, or don’t quite move their feet well enough on d, or don’t quite rebound like they should…that’s a lot less of a liability than 3+, and expecting the holes to be filled with newcomers
LOL

Russ Rob had holes. Sasha Kaun had holes. Darnell Jackson had holes.

And that's also maybe the best roster in the history of KU basketball. So expecting that as a normal occurrence is laughable.

Get a grip.
Dangit illy, you’re cooler when you aren’t being condescending.

I don’t remember any of those guys being as incomplete as this season’s guys.

That’s to say, I don’t remember ever being like, “man, Sasha/Darnell/Russ’s lack of (insert particular skill here) sure is burning us tonight,” like I felt this year.

Maybe it was cuz we had the depth that year too.

Or maybe it was cuz that team is an outlier. Wasn’t that the year Roi was saying, “they have no weaknesses”
Being condescending wasn't my intention.

We complained about Sasha having brick hands....but sure, for the most part that was nearly a perfect team. Although I do remember people wanting there to be "that guy" scoring, instead of it being a balanced effort like it was....but winning cures all, so the ending made us forget the very few and very small issues that roster had.

We haven't replicated that over and over, because a team like that isn't easily assembled. And in today's era of transfer portal and NIL, it's not realistic to expect that type of perfect roster.

DH and Kj wouldn't play on the 08 team. At least not very much. So I get your sentiment here about wanting the best of the best players. But it's not as if they are sitting on the bench wasting away or we are turning them away when they want to come here. We just aren't getting NBA players at all 5 positions lately like we did in 08.

That 08 team had an insane amount of things go perfectly for them.

DJax developed into a borderline NBA player by year 4. Sasha developed into a borderline NBA player by year 4. Rush tore his ACL or he'd have been gone. We got 3 years out of Chalmers and Rush, 2 out of Arthur, Sherron was already good. And Cole as emergency depth. I think it's maybe the best roster in KU history. The PP Raef Jacque team also comes to mind.

Nah. They're good too. Amazing. But I don't think they reach the 2008 level of talent or skill as a team (in my opinion).

Love the twins. Sherron. Tyshawn. Baby TRob.....but Chalmers Rush Arthur win it for me at the top, and the supporting cast around them was better than 2010.

Obviously splitting hairs here. 2010 is a top 10 team in Kansas history I'd imagine.

My bad, I was actually talking about 10-11 the whole time.

09-10...with X and not as good twins, not close to as good as 08 imo. Great team though.

We were really churning out some rosters in those days.

'07-'11 was the first peak, yep. Marked by balance, "we'll beat you at your game."

Then we had a lead guard peak (broadly, the Mason/Graham/Dotson era), and then more recently a wings mini-peak.

2010 roster

Sherron
Cole
Xavier henry
Marcus
Markieff
Tyshawn
Trob
Elijah
Travis
Withey
Mario little
Brady
Tyrel

1-13 best roster self has ever had

But yeah. 08 was fucking awesome. We will never again have multiple nba level athletes with multiple years of experience at KU on the same team

A lot of those players weren't who they eventually became. The names are great, but we've had better teams.

Your original comment was best roster. I think 2010 was the best roster

And one of the best teams. I mean they were 32-2 when they got to the ncaa tournament

Unfortunately they failed to avoid an upset by a grossly underseeded UNI team

But that team was legit legit

Not getting a final four either of those years really hurts their legacy. And Bill Self's. If he's sitting at 3 or 4 nattys today he'd be talked about much differently. Instead, now everybody has a boner for Hurley.

Yep, 2010 against uni and 2011 against vcu were definitely tourney runs that got away

But 2012 and 2018 were final 4 runs a lot of people didn't really bet on
