85Hawk

pdub, if this post is inappropriate, I understand, just been meaning to share for over a year.

Does anyone remember board legend 85Hawk from the .com era? That was Dallas Dunn, and he passed away on January 23, 2023.

85 always provided us insightful, often humorous, sometimes contentious, commentary on our favorite team. He was a consummate fan of all things KU.

Eventually we realized that Salina was our mutual home town and we became friends. Unbeknownst to me, our parents had been friends for decades.

Dallas was a unique individual. He had a long-term girlfriend who lived in the Ukraine. They would see each other as often as possible but were a happy couple.

Professionally, Dallas was an insurance agent, and I still have a term policy he wrote for me and my daughter.

I realize many of the old folks have moved on, but if anyone has fun memories of 85, would love to hear em.

Cheers

Well this is heavy to hear,
Loved 85.
Such an interesting poster.

We had an entire thread called things 85 says where we just kept a log of his most famous sayings.

There was a great one about him suspecting a gay person worked at his office because he found huge shits left in the toilets.

This is a bummer.

His wingman skills were legendary.

He always talked about the importance of keeping the pH levels in your body at a certain level. Something about drinking salt water.

I don’t know why KUSports didn’t just lock their boreds and keep them alive.

Lotta good memories on there.

Does anyone remember another .com poster who passed away and we were made aware of it. Maybe around 2009?

Anyway, pdub is right. An easily accessible read-only archive of that site would be fantastic.

However, Wayback Machine has plenty of snapshots available from 1999 onward.

Here's one about Timmy from 2010:

Rabbit hole time.

There was a poster named Pomeranian who was unfortunately killed in a freak incident with feral dogs around that time I think.
