i don’t like Hunter, but (depending on the other pieces) i’d have zero issue with him being here next year

I would bet that’s the case.

i’m amazed how many of you, otherwise rather intelligent people, are attributing anything other than our depth as primary factor in this loss and the season’s success

Also, I prefer Juan having a center he can throw lobs to.

I think we'd have been better this year with Udeh/Ejiofor.
I am totally flummoxed to hear people say that. Not necessarily because Hunter is the best Big ever, but especially since neither Udeh/Ejiofor distinguished themselves this year.
Yeah, but I would like to think they would have progressed better under Self and staff.
We'd like to think that ElMarko would have progressed better under Self and staff too, but he didn't.

I can't blame Self for going out and landing the #1 prize in the portal last year, a pre-season All American,, rather than going with two untested players, both of whom while good and with potential, were still projects and don't appear to be particularly gifted.

But who knows.

I would say the lack of shooting, athleticism, and defense were all big issues as well.

Lack of quality depth and lack of shooting. Eight guys is enough of a rotation if your three off the bench play way better than what KU got from Timberlake, Elmarko, Braun and McDowell/Braun. The lack of quality depth is part of why we had so many chunks of halves where the offense and defense just disappeared.

I am hoping that KJ is relegated to being an energy guy off the bench where he belongs. He is just not skilled enough at scoring or rebounding to be getting this volume of minutes. Plus, we have zero clue whether or not we'll find a shooter in the portal who is good enough to be a starter or not or whether we'll land Liam McNeeley in the next few weeks which I think we will.

KJ is the starter next year, but you're crazy if you don't think he was a huge part of this teams problem on offense. An undersized forward who can't shoot isn't something I want to recruit again.

KJ desperately needs to develop a shot or he will be a major liability again next year. Let's hope he can.

Unfortunately several of our problems this year will be back next season most likely

KJ is one of them, and undersized forward who can't shoot.
Dajuan is another, an unathletic PG who can't create offense very well
Hunter is the biggest problem I think, a slow center who can't anchor the defense

All 3 are really good college players in their own way, but all 3 have a major weakness that is tough to build around

Triangle and one will save us. And good minutes from Turgeon off the bench.

I'm sorry. I could not disagree more.

KJ is a MAN. Other schools would build a team on him.

We NEED him. That's that.

imo
Please, I implore you to be reasonable...
