I hate to break it to you, but people don't own radio stations because they want to play music for you.

Oh I know this but like, I think the NBA would be ok, they make billions.
Let's focus on the product.

I am in the minority here, but the load management stuff doesn't bother me.

82 game season doesn't bother me, but it's just what I am accustomed to I suppose.

Not really a fan of the play in games for the playoffs. But at least it's an exciting format and doesn't take long. Gives the playoff teams a few extra days of rest.

Also not really a fan of the in season tournament.

If we're cutting the regular season by like 40% then the games would matter quite a bit more and you wouldn't have nearly as much half ass walking down the court and lazy defending in the middle of January.

It's rampant in quarters 1 through 3 and maybe 4 if the opposing team is up by 20+.

True.

I wonder if that knife cuts both ways though. A team has injuries or goes through a bad month stretch and suddenly they're halfway into the season with no chance at the playoffs and nothing to play for. Could it make tanking a more common occurrence?

With fewer games there'd be less likely a chance of you falling behind so many though.
That would balance out.

Instead of say 10 games back i'd be 5 and it'd mean something similar.

It's been linked, and with reason, to Popovich circa 2012 and on.
It makes sense for teams who are currently comfortable in their spot and maybe playing against a lesser opponent.
It's 82 freaking games.

is the schedule longer than it was back in the days of larry bird and mj and magic and isaih thomas and ai and dr j etc etc etc

how many games was a regular season back then.

82.
Statistically/record wise it makes sense to keep it as is. And $$ too.

But in terms of resting players, I know you're all boostrapsy and i'm a man so every man should play every minute of every game but it strategically makes all the sense in the world.

82 games is just a lot. If I were a coach, i'd pick and choose where to do that too.
But probably wouldn't if it was say 58 games.

Definitely top 5 for me too - but it's a small sample size.
I can maybe name 5 very good NBA coaches. I can't name 5 great ones.
