Re: Pity the Demonrat

You dismissed concerns of women being raped with the following bizarre comment:

Have you been a young woman on a college campus? Did you fear sexual assault while on campus at KU?

Re: Pity the Demonrat

Gutter, let's not bring rape into this. That's a global problem that actually is much worse in countries outside of America. Besides, more men are raped every year in America than women (if you look into our prisons). Speaking of sexual assault, if a woman has sex with an underage boy, society laug...

Re: Pity the Demonrat

Lobster might want to try an experiment that one professor does with classes. Ask both males and females to raise their hands and explain what they do in their daily lives to avoid sexual assault.

Re: Civility in politics

You just explained why you are closed-minded and then declared me closed-minded. Care to define TOLERANT to me too? Having been involved in investigations, I know the same thing as most prosecutors--that actual investigations don't always turn up the results one expects. That's somewhat different t...

Re: Civility in politics

I think we saw some on Friday. Three GOP Senators (Blake, Collins, Murkowski) and perhaps three Democrats (Manchin, Donnelly, Heitkamp) formed a coalition and got something for both sides of the aisle. Small steps. GOP wanted a vote on Tuesday. Dems wanted a FBI Investigation. Each got something. M...

The thing about Bork was that he lacked judicial temperament as much as Kavanaugh does. Bork wanted to be a congressman, not a judge. So does Kavanaugh--that's not really the role of a SCOTUS justice.

Re: Civility in politics

jfish, my impression watching politics in this particular election cycle is that people are paying less attention to the national noise and deciding on local issues from their own district/state. That is a big change from recent elections and probably a good start. Although there are teams at the lo...

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

William Fishburne, 53, who graduated from Georgetown Prep with Kavanaugh in 1983, and Barbot both said they’ve faced pressure within alumni circles to stay quiet regarding their memories of the school’s culture, after they both said publicly that they believe Ford. Fishburne said he’s received call...

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

Amazing how some old white men are still stuck in the 1980s, when they could assert that women are always lying about sexual assault and many people accepted that, instead of the maybe 20% of the population that now chooses to believe that women always lie. Kind of like the last 3 decades when peopl...

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

Will those who want Kavanaugh confirmed no matter what accept a usual kind FBI investigation that is not time limited or limited as to what can be asked or what witnesses can be questioned? Of course, since it's being called a "report" and not an "investigation," perhaps that que...

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

Of course, anything a woman of any age says is not credible to some who are clinging to white male privilege, but women are speaking nonetheless. This, from women who attended Catholic schools in the Maryland area. The women said they were warned by other girls about the aggression of boys from neig...

Take a step back, take a breath and get some perspective. Perhaps watch this clip and think how women react seeing Amy Klobuchar, who always comes off as the nicest person possible, treated as if she were some Catholic high school girl. https://edition.cnn.com/videos/politics/2018/09/28/brett-kavan...

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

What I'd certainly advise is to avoid belligerent young men who are likely to be mean drunks. How to determine which adolescent boy will turn into the kind of raging, vicious drunk that we can all imagine--that's a tougher thing to advise upon.

A comment from someone on MSNBC:

If a female nominee had shouted and cried and cross-talked the senators, she'd have been taken out in a straight jacket.

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

Elizabeth Loftus has worked very hard to destroy the reputations of various women and girls in exchange for fame and fortune for herself. But, interestingly, she has never been willing to subject herself to the public ridicule which she delights in inflicting on other victims.

Re: Kavanaugh accuser in a nutshell...

I wonder if Loftus alters her memories when reflecting back on the days when she thought that Ted Bundy was a nice young man, whom she testified for. Just as she testified for O. J. Simpson, Timothy McVeigh, the Hillside Strangler, the Menendez Brothers, the officers who beat Rodney King, the defend...
