Needless to say that led to a little tension between Beal and his mother.

"I said, 'I'm going to the University of Florida,'" Beal recalled. "She got up, walked out, didn't say nothing, didn't clap. I didn't talk to her for two months, living in the same house. Living in the same house."

"I'm like, 'Kansas is cold as hell,'" Beal recalled. "It's four hours away. It's too close. I said, 'I just can't do it.’"

As awful as it sounds, I was thinking if Ewing can't coach, maybe that's his chance.

Grimes was granted a waiver not because KU didn't have any open scholarships but because KU did not have a scholarship for Grimes. And KU backed that up.
