Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
We've had some really great PG's here.
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
Elijah was a lot better off the ball.
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
And also Elijah Johnson.
Sorry, had to.
Tip-top of my head, Self-era (and surely I'm missing someone):
Mason
Collins
Graham
Taylor
Dotson
Garrett
Miles
Johnson
Robinson
Getting Food Poisoning
Selby
Getting Really Bad Food Poisoning, and Also Your Dog Dies

Mason, Collins, Graham and Taylor had such remarkable individual seasons (in different ways) that I'd put those seasons as 1a, b, c, d.

Dotson could have been up there...CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:31 am Mason, Collins, Graham and Taylor had such remarkable individual seasons (in different ways) that I'd put those seasons as 1a, b, c, d.

Yes, Dotson could have capped it in a year that's not 2020. I also think he got snubbed on 1st team AA stuff. Beginning to end, he was so great. A non-shooting PG that led the best team in the country in scoring--not something you'd think you'd hear in today's game.
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
I don't think there's a solid argument against Mason being alone at the top.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:31 am Mason, Collins, Graham and Taylor had such remarkable individual seasons (in different ways) that I'd put those seasons as 1a, b, c, d.

If we'd gone to a Final Four, I could see the top of the list tiered like this:CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:36 am Yes, Dotson could have capped it in a year that's not 2020. Mason
Graham
Collins
Chalmers
Dotson
Taylor
It was Chalmers, by the way, that I left out!

Agree to disagree. The national awards vary too much season-to-season to be a big deciding factor for me.jfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:37 amI don't think there's a solid argument against Mason being alone at the top.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:31 am Mason, Collins, Graham and Taylor had such remarkable individual seasons (in different ways) that I'd put those seasons as 1a, b, c, d.
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
I’d take Dotson over Collins.
Unless, of course, anyone would like to argue quantity over quality.

I just give a ton of credit to Sherron and D'Tae for what they meant to their 09 and 18 teams. That's a different and difficult role that not all of those guys had to go through (which is good).
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
Yeah, 09 Sherron was special.
10 Sherron was the daily special, double order, smothered in gravy, with an extra side of fries.

And that kind of partly goes to why I'm not huge on the national awards. Sherron's 1st team selection was '10 and not '09. We knew better.
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
There's always a lot of speculation about new recruits, and their comparisons to veteran jayhawks. All I really care about is that the new kid has killer instinct foot on the neck game finishes.

Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
I would say all those guys, even EJ, had those kind of moments. I think it's safe to say that the staff recruits that trait for that position.
Even Garrett, who maybe won't be the finisher, gets to the paint every time in late game situations.

Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
It’s not just national awards but metrics.
Mason takes the top position...of not just point guards under Self but player.

Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
Isn’t 2nd on the top player list Simien?
Who was a great player, but also injury prone, and on a roster that fell apart before our very eyes almost as fast as you can say, “Lagerald Vick”

Right. Stats, here, are an objective tool but used to support a subjective opinion. Awards, stats, anecdotal moments, eye test, etc. you can and should use them all.
IMO, I don't see how you could watch both Simien and Marcus Morris play and land on Simien. It's not baseball.
Re: Welcome Kyle Cuffe Jr
Simien was such an old school player, too.
Don’t know how he’d fit in today’s style of play.

Simeon missed the driveway shot
that’s what he’ll be remembered most for in my mind
