Government Shut-Down Thread
Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
um, because of republicans in the senate?
thought the house passed a spending measure, but that it wouldn’t be brought to the floor of the senate?

Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
Yes because they are saying they wont bring a deal to the senate that Trump wont sign off on.
Just Ledoux it

We should furlough our worthless politicians. Not hard worker federal workers like my brother in law who works for the ATF and just missed his 1st paycheck last friday....he's a lucky 1 who has supportive family members who are able to bridge any gap needed financially, but not everyone has that privilege.
It's sad. And unnecessary.
Trump could (probably should) swallow his pride and reopen the government. It wouldn't make up for all his other fuck ups, but it would put the people 1st, which neither side seems to give a shit about. He's not going to get what he wants by doing this...nor should he. This shouldn't be how government works.
Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
Stop with the neither side shit. Tbe Dems have passed bills through the House to reopen the government as soon as the GOP Senate passes it. The government being shut down is 100% due to one side.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 2:27 pmAgreed.TDub wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 2:13 pm Isnt our system supposed to be set up with enough checks and balances do that one angry persom cant hold the natiom hostage? The Senate can override a Presidential veto with a 2/3 vote. The problem is that there arent enough Republicans who want to be on Trump blast so they are sitting silentlt in the corner praying that Trump declares a national emergency to build his useless wall.TDub wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 2:13 pm Isnt our system supposed to be set up with enough checks and balances do that one angry persom cant hold the natiom hostage? They're passing shit to the senate that they know won't get anything reopened. You know that. Come on man.twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 2:57 pmStop with the neither side shit. They passed one bill to continue funding for just DHS through Feb. 8 and another to fund 6 other govt agencies through the end of the year.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 3:03 pmThey're passing shit to the senate that they know won't get anything reopened. So what exactly is "shit" about what they passed? Since you know it...
Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
I didn't mean the legislation was "shit" itself. Sorry. Just that they know what they're sending to the Senate isn't going to get the government reopened because they're not compromising at all....and honestly trump isn't either. 2 sides refusing to budge. Heels dug in. You can blame whoever you want. I place a lot of the blame on Trump too...but the Dems also get a share of the blame imo.
Either way, this shouldn't be how we do the border security ("wall") debate between the 2 sides. Open the government and do this "shit" the right way.
Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
I agree with your last 2 sentences. And the bill passed by the House, which you called "shit", accomplishes exactly what you state needs to be done. The rest was bothsiderism at its finest.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 3:15 pmI didn't mean the legislation was "shit" itself. Sorry. We have 2 separate problems:
1) the government is shut down
2) the immigration system needs to be addressed
Problem #1 can be fixed right now by the GOP led Senate signing the bill passed by the Dem led House. Their solution to problem #1 does nothing to address problem #2. Which is fine to me because they are two totally separate problems.
The GOP just refuses to fix problem #1 without getting what they want to address problem #2. So they are solely to blame for problem #1 not being fixed. There is nothing complicated about it.

Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
It would pass the Senate if it was brought up for a vote.
Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
Mitch McConnell is up for reelection in 2020. If he allowed that vote to happen, Trump would sick the full force of his supporters on him and very few states have more of those than Kentucky.RussianHawk wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 3:38 pm It would pass the Senate if it was brought up for a vote.
Our online interactions on Rupp Rafters should give us a glimpse of how that would go. He would be out of work.

Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
Trump doens't maintain focus long enough to impact McConnell's reelection, and chances are Trump is going to need McConnell more than the other way around. All that said the bill would likely "pass" so acting as this is a both/sides issues is silly.
Re: Government Shut-Down Thread
Trump ran multiple republicans out of office in the midterms. Blowing off his ability to be vindictive to those that cross him is a mistake. The proof is out there and shows he does maintain focus long enough to accomplish that.RussianHawk wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 3:56 pm Trump doens't maintain focus long enough to impact McConnell's reelection, and chances are Trump is going to need McConnell more than the other way around. The RNC and his re-election committee will keep track for him.

BS. Anyone overstays a visa, deport them and deny them future visas. People who take all the trouble it takes to come here legally and become citizens are heroes.
When you meet people who have done all that, do you laugh at them or something?

Weird. You mean like the House passed countless repeals of the ACA but the Democrats prevented the Senate from doing the same? For 6 years?TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 2:19 pm um, because of republicans in the senate?
