I am sure I am in the minority here, but fouling at the end of games has never really bothered me.

It's not really the fouling at the end of games--the bigger problem is when you have teams in the bonus for 8, 10, 12 minutes a half. It drags the game out forever and it starts to not even resemble basketball. Other leagues don't deal with it simply because they don't have the unique MBB rules.

As you state over and over, college basketball is lacking as a spectator sport, and free throw contests don't help that. Like instant replay in the NBA, the purpose of the setup was probably good, but there are unforeseen effects.

The whole idea of fouling as a strategy just seems crazy. Anyone old enough to remember if that was a thing before the three point line?

There are stories that some teams did "Hack-a-Wilt."

Worse than a man on 2nd in extras.

We'd also likely have one fewer natty.
I think intentionally fouling seems like more of a gimmick than playing actual basketball the entire game.

Not more of a gimmick than randomly assigning a time where the clock stops and randomly assigning a score where the game ends, no, not to me.

Yeah, Elam ending was developed to try and help make the game better for everyone involved. It may or may not be someone's cup of tea, but the intentions were to try and solve a problem.

That said, I firmly believe sportswriters are more in support of it than fans because they find their jobs to be miserable a lot of nights. Which, to that I say, you signed up to cover college kids playing sports as a profession.

I remember before the shot clock. A team would get up by 6 points and go 4 corner offense for 5 minutes per possession.

Takes me back to HS ball. Had one game where coach had us stay in the zone and let them run out the clock into halftime. I was pissed.

The HS and AAU games I see on TV have shot clock now.

we had a play drawn up where the guard would take the ball to a corner and three teammates would surround them, preventing the defender from being close enough to initiate a 5 second call

i get it, but so dumb

#14 TCU getting their ass kicked by 14 with 2 minutes left in the 1st half was not a score I expected to see tonight. I thought they were going to be good this year? Rough start.

Entertaining finish from two top quality teams. That was fun to watch. Both teams have beasty schedules in non-con as well.
