Yesufu just cannot cut it there.
I agree. Id rather have mccullar play back up point, and yesefu at the 2. Yesefu can help with some ball handling, so can jalen. Yesefu can give us a scoring punch and quick burst. This team really needs that some games. What does pettiford actually give us ?

that dead horse has to be pulp by now
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

We haven't done it, but we absolutely could play KM GD JW KJ and Udeh for 3min a game.
Foul trouble won't allow that. But. Next season I think KJ plays exclusively at the 4. Udeh and ejiafor take bigggg steps forward as sophomores. And we have a big athletically abusive front court again

Self needs to start consulting the board. The hivemind knows best

Lets be real, all 3 of pettiford yesefu and rice have some limitations right now. All 3 have skills that can help this team this season. All 3 are going to give us important minutes and contribute in some way

You could combine Pettiford and Yesufu's best attributes and still be left with a below average player (for a program like ours).

This must be addressed in the portal over the offseason, if we can't bring in a OAD-level talent.

Well we got like 3 guards coming to the program next year. A couple of those are probably going to be better than Bobby and Yes.

And the lowest guy is something like 100th best player in the class.

Elmarko Jackson and Chris Johnson are going to be some big time players next year.

We have a McDonald's AA that can't get minutes over Pettiford and Yesufu.

We go through this every year. Where our fans assume the next recruits are going to instantly better than guys who have been in college for several seasons. Thanks for being reasonable

What do you call the ball screen defense they're playing now, ever since the second half of the Baylor game?

We switched 5 most of the year. Screen comes, they just switch.

In the old two-bigs days they would hedge the screen hard, with the big coming way out, then sprinting back.

Now it's like, they switch for a second, then switch right back. They're trying to keep Harris and McCullar on the opponents' two best perimeter players. It's been super effective. Is it, like, a soft hedge? I don't think this is "icing"... is it?

When you ice the screen you basically switch hard as fuck right before the pick and roll. The switch guy tries to pressure the ball handler and deter him from even getting to use the screen. So no its not "icing"

There isn't really a term for it. It's just switching and switching back. They switch the pick, then wait until the ball has been swung from the pick and/or roller to another player on the wing, and try to switch back as quick as they can, if the original assignments are still relatively close.

It has been effective. Cause we have a quick versatile defense. And when that is all executed and they switch back, it means the offense gained absolutely nothing out of that pick and roll

randylahey wrote: Fri Jun 10, 2022 10:17 am I could see mj rice getting beat out by a lot of these other guys. Hes a physical athletic specimen of a wing, but I dont think his shooting or skills are that good yet. And he's a true freshman with no experience and no clue what he's doing yet. He will have a tough road to carve out a significant role this season
Bump. Taken from June 2022. Before last season, we were having the same argument about freshman. All you guys were convinced me Rice was going to beat out our returning guys and be ready to go day day. I was one of the only people that considered that probably wouldn't happen, while the whole board argued against me, like usual. Same argument are having about elmarko Jackson this season

Yesufu is better than Harris, Braun and Agbaji!
He's the next Kyle Lowry!

I'm right about a lot of shit. Wrong about some. Same as anybody. My optimism for yesefu had diminished mid-season last year. Yet you cling to it forever.

I brought up mj rice because its a perfect example for tempering expectations for freshman, not to create a pissing match. The majority of you thought rice would have a big impact last season, same as elmarko this year
