I’ve felt for a few years now that the only good to come out of the streak ending was that the program and fans can move on from fretting about the damn thing every year.

Of course you want to win the conference, but our fan base has placed way too much importance on that singular feat within a season.

This is probably true. For me personally as well as for the fanbase. But it's hard to let go of something so damn historic.

Now that it’s over, I think that it will weirdly get it’s proper due, though. In some circles it was becoming a joke after each year it was extended. I’ve read so praise for the streak since last night without the usual snark.

Not a shot at you, CnB, but in general the respone to the Streak being over has been weird to me. You downgrade it when it is happening but suddenly it becomes important when it is over? I've believed all along that the only people that really cared about winning every year was KU fans. Outside of that the national pundits and causal fan base could care less. Fair or not success outside of Lawrence is measured in success during the Tournament and save for 2008 KU hasn't had a whole lot of that.

i would disagree, in a sense

to casual, t-shirt fans you're absolutely right about success being measured by post-season success. but, for those who are truly fans (even if not of KU) of college basketball, i think they really understand the significance of it

Now that the streak is over, I feel the opposite.
I think it will let us know how awesome it was to win it and how some of us took it for granted - and now i'll want to win it that much more next year.

Man, the streak started my freshman year.

Since becoming a Jayhawk I’ve never known otherwise until now.

Didn't realize we were same class. There are a few of us on here that are that way.

Class of 88. Left after 86.
You're welcome for my class being the start of what KU Basketball has been over the past 35 years.

Twitter is packed with national pundits praising KU for the streak so you are wrong about them.

And casual fan bases by definition dont care about events and achievements in the sport so them not caring about the streak is irrelevant.

It will be oddly nice to not hear about the streak next year and just let next year's team worry about next year's results without be haunted by the accomplishments of previous teams.

ISU has everyone back except Shaylok, assuming Horton-Tucker doesn't go. They may be favored to outright win the league.
Fights breaking out in Ames. Call the constabulary.
